Coach Belcher looks back then ahead Although the Ute loss last week to the Lehi Pioneers was disappointing, disap-pointing, Coach Curg Belcher felt his team played well. "Lehi's a good team," Belcher said. "It was a good game and I thought our kids played well. I thought it was probably one of the better games we've played. You know, sometimes you get the breaks and sometimes they don't come. We had a couple of chances to win but it didn't happen." , "I thought our 'defense was real sound, they played well," he continued. con-tinued. "Jon Workman had a good game and so did Jed Robinson on offense." Coach Belcher said that it was a goal to get the team through the season and into the playoffs healthy and in good condition. He was sorry sor-ry it didn't quite happen and noted sidelining injuries to Kelly Bushman and Anthony Thomas as examples. Looking forward to Saturday, Nov. 1, Belcher provided a brief assessment as-sessment of the Ben Lomond team that the Utcs will face in the first round of state postseason competition. competi-tion. "They're a good football team, they have a good running back in the White kid," he said. "White may be the premier running back in the state, he's a dandy. We're looking look-ing forward to a good game again this week." The Utcs finished the regular season sea-son with a 3 1 record in Region 10 play and a 7 -1 record overall. Ben Lomond coach looks forward to Saturday matchup Ben Lomond Head Football Coach, Guy Andersen, is looking forward to the Saturday matchup against Uintah. Andersen said that he has a senior-heavy team with 1 8 starters returning from last year. "We have what I consider to be the best running back in the state," Andersen said. He is speaking about senior, Emmctt White. "Emmctt has had a great year and has rushed for nearly 1,300 total yards in our eight games this year." Andersen said that if all purpose yards (kick returns, etc.) are considered, Smith has over 2,000 yards for the year. Andersen has been preparing for the upcoming game. He said he was in Vernal last f 'riday night and nearly near-ly froze watching the Utes play Lehi. "Is it always like that," he said referring re-ferring to the miserable weather last week. "I got there and thought wow, what a neat facility, but boy, it was terrible otherwise," lie continued again referring to the frigid weather. Coach Amicrcn said he was very impressed with what he has seen of the Ute team, "One of the biggest things they have is how they play the team," he observed. "It indicates great coaching, coach-ing, the team didn't gel rattled, they play as a team. When things went against them like the failed two point conversion, they stayed focused fo-cused and worked with togetherness, together-ness, They appear to like the player ncl to them and really play as a team." Andcren aid that the Uintah team did the same thing in their comeback win against Union. "I'm looking forward to the game on Saturday," he said. "We like to run the ball and from what we've put the Utes seen, Uintah plays about fifty-fifty. They also have a solid defense. It should be a good game," he added. Andersen said he has been coaching coach-ing about six years and took over as Ben Lomond Head Coach this year. He said he had worked as an assistant assis-tant coach at both Ogden and North Ridge prior to his new position. According to Andersen, Ben Lomond had a 1 - 26 win -loss record over the past three years. This year, the Scots arc 5 - 3 overall and 3 2 in Region 7 play.
