Show Tips for a safe Halloween A child's imagination has no limits lim-its on Halloween night. To ensure a happy and fun Halloween night as these little people roam the streets, the Utah Safety Council offers these Halloween safety tips. COSTUMES Design costumes so children can walk, see and be seen easily. Use face makeup instead of masks, wigs and breads. Make sure costumes are short enough to prevent tripping. Shoes should be comfortable and fit well. It is not a good idea for a child to wear mom's high heels or dad's size 12 shoes. Costumes of light colored material, mate-rial, flashlights and reflective tape will help motorists see your child. Make sure children can wear warm clothing underneath their costumes. Make knives, swords and other accessories out of cardboard. Look for costumes that are flame resistant. Place the child's name, phone number and address on the inside of the child's costume. When instructing your children before a night of trick-or-treating remember these hints: INSTRUCTIONS FOR CHILDREN Have children follow a route both your child and you know. Have your children return home at a set time. Have children under 12 go with S3 n BLM employees help Con Amore students fish This fall, employees from the Bureau of Land Management, Vernal District staff were able to participate in a U.S. Forest Service sponsored "Fishing Day" for students stu-dents of Con Amore Training Center, from Myton. Con Amore School is devoted to the education and community integration inte-gration of their students of "other abilities" from all age categories and ranges of abilities. The students are paired up, one on one, with "big buddies" for the day and together they share in all activities. This year everyone had a day in Rock Creek drainage, west of Duchesne, with hiking and picnicking. picnick-ing. Participating in a fishing adventure, ad-venture, a trial run for the afternoon, after-noon, they hauled out special prizes from behind a big fishing curtain, collecting gummi worms for fish bait, and having photos taken with everyone's favorite bear, Smokey. Smokey has a very big and accommodating accom-modating lap, as was witnessed by the students and their respective buddies. The afternoon saw all (some 60 students and an equal number of adults) working at attempting to catch the big ones at the Lower Stillwater ponds. The ponds were conveniently stocked by Utah Division of Wildlife Resources (DWR) the previous day and, , though it didn't seem to enhance chances much, the excitement of the possibilities kept everyone on their toes. DWR also lent their own sponsorship sponsor-ship of the event by lifting the license li-cense requirements for the day. Before they knew it, the afternoon was almost over and it was time to My goodbye. Bonds of affection can be made between people in a short time; they are jum as special for big buddies as (he little ones. Employees of the BLM look forward to a reunion next year and thank the U.S. Forest Service for the opportunity to be buddicj to thcie deserving kids. I; fi I .r,.'
