It was a total bull shutout Friday night although al-though the cowboys made a nice comeback Saturday evening. Cowboys mix it up (luring Slash C event by Eric F. Pye Sports Writer The Western Park hosted another fine event recently as Slash C Rodeos and the CRC were in town to stage a two day rodeo. Friday, March 22 featured a full complement of rodeo events including includ-ing calf roping, team roping, barrel racing, bareback, saddle bronc, bull doggin, bull riding and breakaway. Saturday the action focussed on bull riding. One of the nice features of the Slash C rodeos and the CRC is they encourage more local participation while at the same time providing top rodeo stock. This event was no different as many of the entrants hailed from the Basin area and got an opportunity to ride some of the roughest, rangiest stock on the rodeo circuit. Friay night's bull riding was probably prob-ably the best example. Out of 15 plus riders, not one was able to register reg-ister a score as the bulls shut out the cowboys. In the largest event of all the 7 team penning Vernal penners Bene Pcdellcck, Kay Gregory nnd Brett Sabey took first place out of the 85 teams competing. Alan Price, Miles Roberts and Brent Bizer took second. Jeff Ogdcn, Clyde Barrrow and VcrrDonn Durfcc placed third. Brett Powers, Cindy Young and Aubry Young placed fourth while Garth Horrocks, Jack Chivcrs nnd Dave Chivcrs finished fifth. In the 4 team penning, Aubrey Young, Claryn Gardiner and Leonard Hccncy took home first place honors out of 46 teams. Fred Harris, Iliil Timothy and Brian Timothy placed second. Other state records set by Uintah athletes included; Dirk Bigelow in the 50 K Junior class with a snatch of 55 K. Luke Einerson in the 70 K Junior class with a clean and jerk of 95 K. Luke was also recognized as the best junior lifter, giving Colossus two of the four best lifter awards. Placing in the general competition included Annette Karen with a first in all three events in the 50 K women's wom-en's class. Becky VanTassell with a first in all three events in the 54 K class. Jamie Cooper with a second in all three events in the same 54 K class and Kris McKee with a third in al three events in the 54 K class giving Uintah a sweep. Brenda Martin placed second in all three events in the 64 K class. In the junior division (ages 12-16), 12-16), Dirk Bigelow placed first in all three events at 54 K. Luke Einerson placed second overall after setting records in all three events, only to have Austin Cowley from Snow Canyon break two of his records. 0, at the Western Park, Brett Sabey placed first.
