Commission approves paving' 07 Pine At Monday's meeting of the coun ty road department, headed by Chairman Max Adams, the board approved the graveling and paving of approximately three miles on the Pine RidgeDry Fork to Deep Creek road. The yes vote came after a petition and a letter of consideration was presented by area ranchers, Elden and Carole Gardner on behalf of the other users of the road. The petition had 17 names on it most of which were property owners. The area has been commonly known as the "sleigh riding hill" by residents in the Uintah Basin. The Gardners said in their letter of consideration that the reason they were requesting the road to be paved was because of the large number of people who use the road to gain access to Deep Creek from Lapoint and Vernal and who use the road for ranching. "It (the road) is a dreadful situation. situa-tion. It has deep ruts in it this time of year," Mrs. Gardner told the commissioners. In some places between be-tween the cattleguard and the summit, sum-mit, approximately one and one-half miles, the ruts are nearly two feet .deep. Paul Feltch, Uintah County road supervisor, explained to the commission com-mission the difficulty in maintaining the road during the winter. He said that with the steep grade, it is hard to get a grader up there and keep the ice and snow cleared. He also said paving the road would help solve some of the danger problem. Feltch presented a project estimate to the commission. In his estimation, estima-tion, phase I, the graveling, would cost the county $54,784 and phase II, the paving, $74,616 for a total cost of $129,400. It will take 6,600 tons of one inch crushed gravel and 6,600 tons of native asphalt to complete com-plete the job. Graders, trucks, a roller and personnel would be needed. need-ed.
