Raffle and Auction Auc-tion held earlier this month at the Bottle Hollow Resort RMEF Banquet to benefit elk habitat By almost anyone's standards, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation 2nd Annual Banquet, Raffle and Auction was a success, with net proceeds totalling approximately $7,000 $1,000 more than last year to be spent on the improvement improve-ment of elk habitat. Chaired by Tom and Marlene Wilhelm, the banquet was held at Bottle Hollow Resort Aug. 11, with 245 tickets sold. Attendance at the banquet was up from last year by 40 people, at 180. "We hope to have someplace larger to meet next year,' said Tom Dabbs, RMEF committee member. Tickets for the banquet were sold out four days before it began be-gan and Dabbs said he hopes no one interested will be turned away next year. Roy Murray served as the auctioneer auc-tioneer for the evening, wilh a "silent" auction (sign-ups replaced the auctioneer) held first. The master mas-ter of ceremonies was Mike Lane, and special guest Bill Gcer, Field Director, RMEF, of Sandy spoke to the group. The RMEF had the support of many businesses in and outside of the Uintah Basin for prizes. Among the top prizes were: a fully guided, five-day elk hunt package for 1991 at Spirit Lake Lodge. It was won by Jeff Horrocks, as the early bird prize. The trip was donated by George Coonradt. The 1990 RMEF Commemorative Browning .300 Winchester Magnum rifle went to high-bidder, Bob Noel, for $1,080. Noel was also the high-bidder for the 1990 trespass permit on a 20,000-acre ranch in Meeker, Colo., including license and choice of season sea-son from September 15-December 15, at $1,110. The permit was donated do-nated by Jerrel Massey. Several popular art prints were also al-so presented to the high bidders. Featured guideoutfitter at the banquet was George Coonradt of Spirit Lake Lodge. He and his family fami-ly own and operate the lodge, which is located on the north side of the high Uintas on the banks of Spirit Lake. Coonradt is the secretary of the North Eastern Utah Outfitters, Packers and Guide Organization. A trophy moosehead was supplied by Coonradt and the Spirit Lake Lodge. Featured taxidermist was Randy Massey, an avid fisher, archer and bowhuntcr. He is a member of the Colorado Taxidermy Association as well as the Utah Association and the North American Hunting Club. Massey also supplied a trophy moosehead with the help of Mike Murray and Waylon Selfc. The RMEF organization has provided pro-vided funding for the enhancement of 450,000 acres of wildlife habitat while permanently protecting an additional ad-ditional 45,000 acres. Manila celebrates Daggett Daze Mr. and Mrs. Kelly R. Wilde have announced the forthcoming marriage mar-riage of their daughter, Lynette to Michael B. Asay, son of Randy and Nancie Asay of Manila at 5 p.m. Aug. 31, at the Pine Grove near McKinnon, Wyo. A reception will follow from 6-8 p.m. Winners of the special events during dur-ing the Daggett Daze Celebration sponsored by the Ladies Posse of Manila was not released until the later part of last week and are as follows: fol-lows: greased pig chase Page Catron, Robert Asay, Rhett Tinker, Brent Sheftlctt, Jason Jarvie, Tiffany Lamb, Daniel Olson, Edie Palleson, Perry Sheehan and Shawn Palleson; rooster chase Niki Briggs, Amanda Asay and Pery Sheehan; boot race Shawn Palleson won first with his sister second; team penning the fastest cowboys and girls James Olson, Derlene Olson and Becky Martin; second place Frank Sheehan, ' Terry Reid and Jim Cahnt; third place Bob McKee, Bob Bessey and Jeanne Carper; fastest cow milkers Frank Sheehan, Don Martin and Mike Freeman. After the 4 p.m. parade ended, contestants returned re-turned to the rodeo grounds for team roping. Boyd Palleson and Mark Anderson were the winners and Boyd Palleson and Steve Slagowski took second. The committee com-mittee members are pleased with the success of Daggett County Daze and are appreciative of those donating time, money or work to the celebration. celebra-tion. The Area Aging Board will hold their annual aging meeting Aug. 28 at the Navajo Cliffs Picnic area on Sheep Creek at 11 a.m. Manila, members are asked to bring pot luck dinners for the picnic included. Daggett schools have enrolled 203 students with 88 at Manila High School Building, 75 at Manila Elementary School and 40 at Flaming Gorge Elementary School in Dutch John. School started Aug. 22.
