Political background: I have been involved in politics for several years now; I have been a delegate several times for the county, also involved with my husband being a state delegate for the past two times. I have been a republican since I started voting, the first time being in 1960 and I have never missed voting. I am also a member of the Uintah County Republican Women Organization. What do you see as the main responsibility respon-sibility of county recorder? I feel that the main responsibility of a county recorder would be to see that the records are kept as accurately in the future as they have been kept in the past. A recorder has a big responsibility respon-sibility in being in charge of these important im-portant documents which are housed in the office. These documents must be handled very carefully and quickly to see that they are accurately recorded with all of the vital information available as quickly as possible to the title companies as well as the public. The big responsibility is to make sure that they are abstracted in the correct books and that the indexes are kept accurately. ac-curately. To run the office efficiently and smoothly. . What are the most important skills to serve as a recorder? Why? I feel that one of the most important skills as a recorder is to be able to work well with the public, because we have a lot of people coming to us for help in finding records or locating property. pro-perty. I also feel that a recorder should have a good working relationship with the deputies in the office so that we can all work good together. A recorder should have some skills in finding legal descriptions so that accurate locations of property can be made. I also consider con-sider it very important to be able to be polite and friendly with the title searchers sear-chers which come from all over the country to use our facilities in Uintah County. I feel it is a patriotic duty to vote, and have faithfully done so each year since 1957. What do you see as the main responsibility respon-sibility of a county recorder? To insure all documents brought to the recorders office are recorded properly, pro-perly, abstracted correctly, and secured against fire, theft or loss. It is also the recorder's responsibility to provide the assessor's office with a current list of all property owners for the assessment roll. What are the most important skills to serve as a recorder? Why. Experience, personal integrity, honesty and maturity: Because there are so many different kinds of documents and many places to store them correctly, experience as to the type of document and the correct recording, is of vital importance. With records of this nature the integrity of their safekeeping cannot be compromised. com-promised. As senior deputy, with seven years experience, I feel I am the most qualified candidate for this office. Continued from page 1 cut the district expenses? Where would you put more money if it were available? I would take a real look at the overhead in the district offices and administration. And a real good look at the money spent on organized athletics. If more money were available, I would put into the arts and band program. Its pretty bad when you have to ship a band from Carbon County for a parade. School Board precinct No. 2 Melinda Barlow Q: What would you do to improve student and teacher attitudes in Uintah Uin-tah School District? A: In 'order to improve student-teacher student-teacher relationship you need to instill in-still a genuine respect for each other. I am unsure how to achieve that goal. I have a vested interest in the school system because I still have children in school. Q: If required, where would you cut the district expenses? Where would you put more money if it were available? A: If necessary, I would cut extracurricular ex-tracurricular activities. There is far too much. Someone is needed who can give a different viewpoint. There needs to be a female voice on the board. If the money were available, I would improve teacher salaries. We need to pay qualified teachers a qualified salary. A qualified teacher shows more respect for his job if paid more. School Board precinct No. 2 Thomas F. Howells Q: What would you do to improve student and teacher attitudes in Uintah Uin-tah School District? A: For teachers I'd have a goal to get a professional agreement by pulling all district policies that deal with teachers and put them in a single book and have it available to teachers. The policies in the book could be negotiable. For students: teenagers like discipline, they like to know that adults are in control of things. We are talking about a new truancy policy and a controlled campus which will help. Q: If required, where would you cut the district expenses? Where would you put more money if it were available? I would give more to teacher salaries, there is no question about it. I am unsure where I would cut, I think our current programs are not elaborate. School Board precinct No. 2 Richard Millett Q: What would you do to improve student and teacher attitudes in Uintah Uin-tah School District? A: I would be more receptive to their needs and problems. Q: If required, where would you cut the district expenses? Where would you put more money if it were available? A: I would give more to teachers to retain better teachers. I don't know where I would cut, but I would not cut teachers salaries. School Board precinct No. 1 Verlin Vincent Q: What would you do to improve student and teacher attitudes in Uintah Uin-tah School District? A: I believe the district has a pretty pret-ty good student-teacher relationship. We have a wide range of classes and have implemented program to improve im-prove grades and make classes interesting. in-teresting. We are testing to help those who fall behind and are implementing a drug a alcohol program. Q: If required, where would you cut the district expenses? Where would you put more money if it were available? A: We now have a very tight budget, but if we had to cut it would be extra-extracurricular activities. If money were available on a yearly year-ly basis, I would put it toward a better bet-ter teacher's' salary. Now we don't have the means, but I would like to see a better teacher salary. We've got a new high school which should provide an adequate educational facility and offer every kid a super educational opportunity. Q: If required, where would you cut the district expenses? Where would you put more money if it were available? A : I haven't looked at the budget so I don't know where money could be saved. But I know some could be saving sav-ing by contracting for busing outside the area. If new money were available it should be placed where it would best improve a kid's education.
