Daley make up a winning group from Uintah Uintah students earn top honors at History Fair FAIR WINNERS Teena Northern and Austin Weaver join with Uintah History Fair chairman Kathy Jones who also was recognized for her outstanding contributions. i Several students from Uintah School District brought home honors from the Utah State History Fair competition Tuesday, April 29. More than 400 students from the fourth through twelfth grades from 30 school districts in Utah participated par-ticipated in the fair at University of Utah Student Union Building, Ballroom and Saltaire Room. This marked the fifth year U of U's Department of History hosted the event. The top winners of each Basin school competed in a regional fair March 25 at Discovery School. The field of state participants came from the regional fair winners. Local winners include: for research papers in the primary division: divi-sion: Teena Northern, 1st place on topic, Brown's Park, Discovery r Elementary; and in the junior division, divi-sion, Phillip Gale, 1st place on topic, the Constitution, Vernal Middle School; Shanta Mitchell, economic paper junior division on topic, history of American currency, Vernal Junior High. In media presentations senior division, divi-sion, K.C. Jones, 2nd place on topic, C.U.P., Uintah High School. For performances primary division, divi-sion, Buffy Arrowchis, Jasanna Cuch, and Philleen Chimburas, 2nd place for Indian dance, Todd Elementary School; Tracy Caldwell, 1st place senior division on topic, songs of Civil War, Uintah High School; Pat Isaacs, 3rd place senior division on topic, Viet Nam War, Uintah Uin-tah High Schools In economic projects primary division: divi-sion: Austin Weaver, 3rd place on '--K., .i topic, World War II, Discovery Elementary. Other winners from the Uintah Basin area were: for projects senior division; Connie Richins, 1st place on topic, Basin ownership, Union High School; Jared Wilkerson and Travis Mecham, 2nd place on topic, Anasazi Indians, Duchesne High School. In economic projects junior division; Audrey Luck and Lisa Bingham, 3rd place on topic, crisis of American war, Roosevelt Junior High. Utah State University awarded scholarships to K.C. Jones and Tracy Caldwell of Uintah High; Jared Wilkerson and Travis Mecham of Duchesne High and Connie Richins of Union High School. Kathy Jones, who was chairman of Uintah District's History Fair, was one of ten teachers who were recognized for their contributions to the State History Fair with a one-year one-year subscription to either the Utah Historical Quarterly or the Western Historical Quarterly. Kathy is a teacher at Discovery Elementary School. ! "Voices from the High School" tells of the problems and joys that are part of every day in a typical high school. These experiences range from handling temptations of drugs and alcohol to preparing for future dreams and the eternal boy-girl problems. pro-blems. The play offers a chance to see the talented cast of students portraying por-traying some of the situations they face in everyday life. Performances will be in the Uintah High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 10 and Monday, May 12. Tickets are $2 at the door.
