The to cancer and air pollution. A little known fact about pumping pump-ing gas has lots to do with the quality qual-ity of the air you breathe. A 1982 study conducted by a leading gasoline trade association found that rats exposed to gasoline vapors developed cancer. When you pump gas into your car dangerous gasoline vapors escape into the air in the form of ozone, a by-product of hydrocarbons. The standard for limits on ozone pollution is set by the Clean Air Act of 1977. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is charged with the task of deciding which corrective option should be uned to contain the vapors. One option involves equipping equip-ping cars with lurge caninters to absorb ab-sorb the vapors from the gasoline. THEE TOP APPLE POPS 1 c. (8 or.) A change made to vehicles would take years to implement, some say. The cost of another mandatory car accessory would be borne by the consumer. On the other hand, a corrective cor-rective device made for gas pumps is already available in the form of a Co-axial hose and the Pctroflex Twin iimp hose made by the Dayco Corporation. It could be implemented im-plemented immediately to give us cleaner air sooner at no expense to the consumer. California and the Dititrict of Columbia have already successfully adopted the hose method of recapturing hydrocarbons. hydrocar-bons.
