Show 1 2 Vernal Express Pndoy, August 2, i?85 Basin unemployment decreases in July The unemployment rate in the Uintah Uin-tah Basin continued a three month decline in the projected July figures. In July the Basin unemployment rate dropped to 7.8 percent from 8.7 in the revised June figures. In May the revised unemployment rate was still slightly higher at 9.1 percent. Although the unemployment rate in the Uintah Basin has continued to decline for the past three months it is still higher than the unemployment rate in 1984. In July 1984 the unemployment rate in the Basin stood at 7.5 Duchesne County showed the highest unemployment rate in the three county area at 8.2 percent in the projected July figures. The unemployment rate in Duchesne County has continued to decline steadily in recent months. In May the revised unemployment rate was still in two digit figures and stood at 10.3 percent. In June the revised unemployment rate was 9.8 percent. While the unemployment rate in Duchesne County is higher than other counties in the area the present rate is lower than 1984. In July Ju-ly 1984 unemployment in Duchesne County stood at 8.6 percent. Unemployment in Uintah County also decreased in July dropping from the revised June figure of 7.9 percent lo 7.8 percent last month. A year ago unemployment in the county was somewhat lower at 7.0 percent. Daggett County showed a dramatic decrease in the unemployment rate dropping from the revised June total of 12.2 percent to 2.7 percent last month. Due to the small labor force in Daggett County, the unemployment unemploy-ment rate can be greatly affected even when only one or two additional individuals file for unemployment benefits. Unemployment statewide also appeared ap-peared to decline in the projected July Ju-ly figures. Statewide unemployment dropped from 6.0 percent in June to 5.7 percent in May. Wasatch County had the highest unemployment rate in the state at 14.1 percent, the lowest was in Rich County at 1.6 percent. The civilian labor force in the Basin has increased slightly from 1984. The projected 1985 July total was 19.560, a 0.6 increase from one year ago. In Duchesne County the labor force decreased by 1.7 percent, dropping from 7,040 in 1984 to 6,920 in 1985. Statewide the labor force increased by 2.0 percent, rising from 726,300 to 740,700. Mid-July prices for barley were also down from June. Alfalfa hay prices were higher, but other hay prices declined. Prices received in mid-July were down for cattle and lambs, and up for sheep. Beef cattle prices were down $9.60 from last year and $2.60 from last month, at $50.70 per hundredweight (cwt.). Cow prices fell $.30 over the previous month, and at $34.40 per cwt. Calf prices were down $4.50 from last month but, at $58.00 per cwt. on . July 15, were up $2.30 from last year. . Lamb prices, at $64.60 per cwt., were $8.20 above last year but $1.40 below last month. Sheep prices were up $4.10 from last year and $1.50 above last month, at $17.50 per cwt. Barley prices dropped 18 cents from June and averaged $2.25 at mid-July. Alfalfa hay averaged $77.00 per ton, and was up $1.00 from June; while other hay, at $59.00 per ton, climbed $6.00 from the June average. Roosevelt woman injured in assault A Roosevelt City woman was injured in-jured after she was attacked by an unknown assailant Thursday morning morn-ing July 25 at approximately 4:30 a.m. The woman, an employee of the Frontier Grill in Roosevelt was opening open-ing the restaurant when the incident'-occurred. incident'-occurred. A man apparently appeared ap-peared out of nowhere and struck her from behind. He allegedly took the woman's purse and fled the area on foot. The suspect was wearing a ski mask.
