Bud Neiberger Bud Neiberger dies at age 76 Jaycees garner awards Frederick Melvin (Bud) Wesley Neiberger, 76, of Vernal died at the Uintah Care Center May 29, 1985. He was the son of John Frederick and Maude Ethel Gillaspie Neiberger. He was born May 9, 1909 in Council Grove, Morris, Kan. He married Dorothy May Kenney in Vernal Jan. 20, 1934. She died April 2, 1961. He married Mable Massey May 7, 1962 in Roosevelt. Their marriage mar-riage was later solemnized in the Manti IDS Temple. He was a welder, carpenter supervisor super-visor for the CCs, chief of police Rangely City for 10 years, and owner of Bud's Barber Shop in Vernal. He was a former member of the Elk's Lodge in Rangely, Colo., High Priests in Vernal 5th Ward, served on the Stake MIA Board, and counselor in the Elders Quorum. Survivors are his wife of Vernal; son and daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Phyllis) Maxwell Sr., Midland, Texas, John Neiberger, Rangely, Colo.; stepchildren, Mrs. Ladell (Betty) Richardson, Orem, Utah, Dr. John L Johnson, Fair Oaks, Calif; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; grand-children; brother and sisters, Marvin (Sam) Neiberger, Phoenix, Ariz., and Mrs. Roberta Osborne, Independence, Indepen-dence, Mo., Mrs. Marcenia Hundey of Sabetha, Kan. and Mrs. Norman (Shirley) H. Fletchall of Sidney, Neb. Funeral services will be Monday, June 6, at 10 a.m. in the Vernal 5th Ward Chapel. Friends may call Sunday Sun-day 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Vernal Thomson's Thom-son's Mortuary. Graveside services will be at the Rangely City Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Monday. Funeral arrangements will be by Thomson's Vernal Mortuary. VFW officers to assist in making claims A Field Service Officer from the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Department Depart-ment Service Office, In Salt Lake City, Ci-ty, will be In Vernal Thursday, June 6, according to John W. Held, Field Service Representative. The officer will assist Individuals tn understanding understan-ding and applying for rightful VA benefits, preparing and documenting applications for compensation, pension, pen-sion, hospitalization, education and other benefits. This is free service end veterans need not be members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars lo qualify for assistance. The VFW Field Service Officer will be working out of the Vernal Job Service Ser-vice Center from I oo a m, U U oo am. -t A. The Vernal Chapter of the Jaycees received a number of awards during their recent state convention. The most prestigious award received receiv-ed by the chapter was the "Service to Humanity" award. The Vernal Jaycees were given the service award for their community Thanksgiving dinner. The group also received the most improved chapter award. Kim Ence, past president of the Jaycees, received several personal honors. He received the outstanding local president for Utah and the William Brownfield Memorial award. Ence was the winner of the Jaycees Speak-up competition and was also elected to the Executive Committee Club. The William Brownfield Memorial award is given to Jaycees who have exhibited the spirit of the organization organiza-tion by participating and sponsoring numerous community activities. To be eligible for the award the recipient must have been in the club less than one and a half years. While in the club Ence has served on many committees com-mittees both as a chairman and a participant. For his winning entry in the Speak-up Speak-up competition Ence spoke on the fifth line of the Jaycee Creed, "That earth's greatest resource lies in human personality." The Executive Committee Club is a statewide as well as a national award. Ence was one of two Jaycees in the state elected to the committee. Ence won four personal awards. also elected to serve on the Utah Jaycees President's Council. The Vernal chapter of the Jaycees was formed almost two years ago and is continuing to experience a great deal of growth. Anyone who is interested in joining the Jaycees may contact any club member or attend the next regular meeting Thursday, June 6 at the Lamplighter Restaurant at 12 noon. The Vernal City Police Department Depart-ment donated five toddler car seats to the Pink Ladies Auxiliary at Ashley. Valley Medical Center Wednesday, and re-emphasized a need to strap children in car seats. The five car seats were purchased with proceeds from the Annual Ver nal City Police Charity Golf Tournament Tourna-ment two weeks ago. "We urge all residents to obey the law, and put their children in car seats while transporting them in vehicles," said Robert T. Downard, Vernal City Police chief . The car seat program, which is offered of-fered to parents of all newborns at Ashley Valley Medical Center, is now administered through the Pink Ladies. The Police Department also donated $500 to the Vernal Youth Athletic League. Hearings set on felony charges Give Our Kids A Break Preliminary hearings have been tentatively set for three area men charged with thefts and for another charged with receiving stolen property. pro-perty. The preliminary hearing for Nyle Ben Cook, 18, has been, set for Wednesday, June 12. Cook has been charged with a total of ten counts of cattle theft. Charges against Cook stem from an incident that occurred May 11 and May 18. Cook allegedly took unlawful possession of ten head of cattle on two different dates and attempted to sell the cattle. The incident was reported to the sheriff's office by the brand inspector. Another man Derek Cross, 19, has been charged in the same incident. Cross was arraigned on the charges May 29. Preliminary hearings for Dale T. Griggs, 20, and Owen Wesley Rogers, 19, have been set for Friday, June 28. The pair are charged with theft of an operable vehicle and burglary. The theft charges stem from an incident in-cident which occurred last month. They are charged with unlawfully removing a motorcycle from Steinaker Lake. Griggs and Rogers have also been charged with a burglary at Simper Saw Mill which occurred about April 3. Darryl J. Griggs, 22, has been charged with receiving stolen property. pro-perty.
