Auto INTS OR OMEOWMERSl Many homeowner are finding that there's an easy way to cut home heating coats these days and be comfortable while doing 10. A new thermostatic radiator valve regulates individual room temperatures, providing provid-ing extra heat in some rooms and less heat in others, such as the kitchen, kitch-en, which already has a "free" heat supply from the stove and other cooking appliances. Designed to cut heating costs by as much as 20 or more in one-pipe steam heating systems, the Danfoss R-IPS lets you determine how much or how little heat you want and where. No more uncomfortable, wasteful, waste-ful, expensive temperature fluctuations the kind that standard manual valves cannot can-not control. Installation is quick, convenient and economical. The valves were the only thermostatic radiator valves chosen to be displayed in the Energy Saving House at the 1982 World's Fair in Knoxville, Tennessee. A fuel oil dealer, utility company, plumber or other heating specialist can tell you more boat them. Beginning with the 1984 crop year, farm borrowers of the Farmers Home Adminstration will receive better financial assistance through the new Coordinated Financial Statements (CFS) according to Lee Hawkes, FmHA Utah Director. Previously farm borrowers have used us-ed the agency's "Farm and Home Plan" to analyze their operations and plan financial strategies. "The Farm . and Home Plan has served the agency agen-cy and its borrowers long and well," Hawkes said. "It has not changed substantially since it was developed nearly 50 years ago." "The intricacies of modern farming, with its emphasis on large-goal operations," opera-tions," competitive marketing, and diversity of production, require sophisticated financial management techniques. Good farm financial management is absolutely necessary for farmers to succeed in the 1980's," Hawkes said, "and the CFS can provide pro-vide the sophisticated analyses needed need-ed to make sound decisions." How to start your children on the road to Achievement The road to achievement for children can start almost as soon as they're born. Caring parents who nurture nur-ture their infants carry this attitude right on into the preschool learning environment. They know that listening to their children, praising their efforts and creating an atmosphere that's conducive con-ducive to learning provides the best start toddlers can get towards motivation motiva-tion for accomplishments. 1 Choosing toys for children is important, impor-tant, too. Learning-oriented playthings that help teach basic skills are likely to be the ones that youngsters will still be enjoying long after the Christmas tree is gone and the battery toys are worn out or thrown out. Look for playthings that enhance the three main areas of development: thinkingcognitive skills, musclemotor mus-clemotor skills and socialcreative skills. They should also provide some degree of realism, be functional and offer a variety of play experiences. To help shoppers select the right item, a guide on the back of the Scrib-ber's Scrib-ber's activity packages lists suggested age levels, instructions for actual use, and the maximum benefits to be expected. The Coordinated Financial Statements includes: 1. A balance sheet and statement of owner's equity. 2. An income statement, showing all income and expenses. ' 3. A statement of change in financial position indicating new borrowings, withdrawals and debt payment of the past year, and 4. A cash flow statement, showing cash income and outgo for the previous year and projections for the coming year. The CFS wll be phased in over a four-year period, Hawkes said. In 1984, each county office is scheduled to use the CFS with at least 10 borrowers. In 1985, 25 percent of the borrowers in each county office should be using the new system with the number increasing increas-ing to 65 percent by 1986. During the 1987 crop year, all borrowers should be using the CFS and are now able to assist borrowers who are going on the new system. Mrs. Bernice Haber was suffering from bronchial asthma. Her husband smoked heavily. heav-ily. He had started "snitching butts" when he was 12 years old. "The tobacco smoke you fill the house with is going to kill her," warned the doctor. "The smoke on your clothes, your hair, your body is all poison to her." The idea of "secondhand smoke" affecting non-smokers was a fairly new concept in 1968 when Dr. Schaffer confronted con-fronted Haber. A consumate inventor with many patents to his credit, Haber struggled with his smoking problem and found a solution. He invented and patented his own private cigarette. Whenever he craved a smoke, he reached for his own fake cigarette. He called it , E Z Quit. It looked like a cigarette, felt like one and tasted like one too. Every time he held it in his mouth and "inhaled" he had the feeling that he was smoking. But there was no smoke, no nicotine, just the "feeling" that he was smoking. "This invention has proven to be a remarkable tool to help people get over the hurdle in their effort to quit smoking," said Dr. Schaffer, who had given Haber his warning. Dr. Schaffer has since given E Z Quits to some of his own patients. Haber passed out his personal per-sonal "cigarette" to more doctors and to friends to see if his invention could help others as it helped him . He was impressed with the successful results of his handiwork. About three years ago Haber "retired." He closed his successful Display Manufacturing Man-ufacturing Corp., which developed de-veloped and marketed some of his other inventions which are now used by many of the country's largest retailers. Bill Haber, Inventor He refined his make-believe cigarette and invented a new machine now used in its manufacture. This enabled him to get his sales price down to about the cost of two cartons of cigarettes, $20.00 for a 30-day supply, which is normally enough to enable anyone to quit smoking. Assured of its effectiveness, Haber opened up shop at 18740 Oxnard St., Suite 309-A, Tarzana, California, and launched a new national mail order company, com-pany, E Z Quit, Inc. to market his product and help people anxious to break the health hazardous smoking addiction. More than 100,000 people have followed Haber's path in kicking the smoking habit. "Dr. Schaffer inspired my resolve to quit," added Haber. "The doctor was right. My wife's asthma problems were managed better after I gave up smoking." By Joan Crosby OLYMPIC HIATUS "General Hospital" will take five weeks off shooting next summer while the Olympics are in Los Angeles. New episodes of the show will air during the Olympic weeks, but "GH" and the other ABC soaps will be preempted frequently. Jackie Zeman, who plays Bobbie Bob-bie Spencer, has decided to escape Los Angeles completely com-pletely during that time. She is planning a long European holiday. QUOTES When anyone criticizes today's rock lyrics, Bobby Vinton retorts with a quote from Voltaire: "Anything too silly to be spoken can always be sung." Erin Gray on the transition from being a model to . comedy actress: "I want to go on to do even more physical phys-ical comedy the pratfalls, the walking into things, accidentally knocking people down the whole bit. I guess I would lke to be the new Lucille Ball." Actress Adrlenne Barbeau on meeting her husband, director John Carpenter: "We met when he was directing direct-ing me in his TV movie 'Someone's Watching Me.' All through the production our relationship was just a professional pro-fessional one. At the end of the movie he took me out to dinner and said he had something to tell me I thought he wanted to discuss another movie role. Instead, to my surprise, he confessed that he was in love with me." They dated for a brief time and were married on Jan. 1, 1979. 1984 Compulog 1a 2 ! fs vt J wg rj ry rj rj .
