Seven staff members from the Utah Division office in Salt Lake City were in Vernal Tuesday, to train area American Cancer Society volunteers on cancer assessment risk tests which will be the basis for this year's campaign. Volunteers from Daggett, Uintah, -Duchesne east and west Units heard from Dr. Larry Wilcken on the common com-mon cancers in Utah, their incidence, warning signals and cure rate. State officers said that the information at the workshop will alert the volunteers to practice safeguards that can protect them from cancer. Renee Shiner, public education chairperson with the Uintah unit was How to be an achiever To be successful you don't have to be born a winner. Experts agree that anyone can learn how to be an achiever, according to research by the National Coffee Association. 1. Adopt a successful attitude The first step towards being an achiever is to adopt a positive attitude. You should feel like a winner and look like one too. 2. Define your goals It is not enough to want to be a success. You must define what you are trying to achieve. Once you have defined your goals, then devise a plan for reaching them. This should include both long-term long-term and step-by-step goals. 3. Mentally rehearse your plan over and over again Review those plans mentally as often as necessary, and especially before a difficult or important impor-tant situation arises. On a more practical level, you should think about what you are trying try-ing to accomplish every day of your life and how you are going to reach these daily goals. Ken Anderson, star quarterback for the Cincinnati Begals, is one achiever : who follows this advice. He has a dai-' ly routine that helps him identify his short-term goals. "It's a relaxing routine and what's more, the coffee picks me up so I can go out and accomplish what I've set out to do," he adds. 4. Be a team player Ken Anderson knows that being a success in his field often doesn't depend on him alone, but also on the work and achievement of his teammates. This is true for all achievers. They understand that their potential is limited if they try to accomplish ac-complish everything by themselves. 5. Don't give up Finally, experts agree that to be an achiever you must have perseverance. Most people are ready to give up at the first sign of trouble. Lack of persistence is one of the major causes of failure. ; In sum, you can be an achiever if you begin with a burning desire to succeed. suc-ceed. The credit cards are' being mailed to current Calling Card holders. "We want to emphasize to our customers that this service has not been affected by divestiture." says Joe Ashby, product manager at Mountain Bell. "Customers may use their Calling Call-ing Cards exactly as they have in the past to bill local and long-distance calls made away from the home or office." "It's less expensive and often more convenient to use a Calling Card than to make operator-assisted calls." To place a Calling Card call, customers simply dial "0" plus the number they are calling. On most Touch-Tone phones, they then enter their Calling Card number directly. On other phones, an operator will take the number. 'in either case, a Calling Card charge is added to the normal price of the call, but it is much less than the cost of reversing the charges or billing bill-ing the call to a third number," Ashby explained. "Using a Calling Card is faster than other types of operator-assisted calls. From most public phones and most Touch-Tone phones, customers can make a series of calls by entering their number only once. For each subsequent subse-quent call, they push the pound () button and the new number they're calling." ' . "Also, customers can save time if the number they're calling is the same number that's on their Calling Card. In that case, they simply dial "0" plus the phone number. After hearing the tone they then dial the last four digits of the card number to put the call through." In addition to savings and convenience. conve-nience. Calling Cards offer customers greater security. Due to an increase in fraudulent charging, Mountain Bell no longer bills calls made from pay phones to a third number unless someone so-meone at that number accepts the charge.
