I Cinematic Sentiments By Dr. Allen Hasson 'Scarface' () (WW-2Ch-l OC-1 Sk-4) Director Brian DePalma ("Carrie", "Blowout") is a cinematic sadist; he admits this, insisting on "realism" in his films, for purposes of drama and authenticity. On the other hand, the ultimate pornography in movies is gratuitous violence. Al Pachino is the Cuban immigrant who makes good in the Miami drug business. He learns that life is lonely at the top, and ends up a literal basket case like his enemies. The point is clear : crime, greed and drugs don't pay. The supporting cast and Giorgio ("Flashdance") Moroder's music add power to this awful nightmare. Strongest R rating for explicit, bloody violence; continual hardcore profanity; sex and nudity. Originally rated "X", although many R-rated films seem more offensive. "Scar-face" "Scar-face" is recommended for all hoodlums and drug dealers in your family; but if you're realtively innocent, inno-cent, it'll blow you away. 'D.C. Cab' () (WW-l Ch-1 OC-1 Sk-1) It's grossville again, in a new comedy com-edy about lowjinks in a Washington, D.C. cab company. As with any number of comedies released this year, many producers seem to think that vulgarity, and vulgarity alone, a comedy makes. "D.C." stars Gary Busey, a fine actor, and Mr. T, a popular actor. Strong R for all kinds of sex and references thereto, nudity, profanity. 'Christine' () (WW-2 Ch-1 OC-1 Sk-4) Three-count 'em, three-Stephen King stories on the screen this year! From America's favorite novelist came "Cujo," "Dead Zone," and now, "Christine." the car with a heart a mean, nasty, evil heart. John ("Hallo ween") Carpenter skillfully directed this revengemobile thriller; trouble is. a demon car with remarkable regenerative powers is even harder to swallow than Barbra Streisand as- a boy. Oh, but it's supposed to be funny? Whatever. Reverse, perverse, tongue-in-cheek tribute to America's love affair with the automobile. From the car's opening open-ing attack on an assembly-line worker to its final showdown with a Caterpillar Cater-pillar tractor, the flesh craw Is but the mind snickers. Great cast, especially Keith Gordon as Arnie, and Robert Prosky as the garage owner. R for very strong profanity, sex. violence. 'Sudden Impact' () (WW-l Ch-1 OC-1 Sk-4) I like Clint Eastwood. He makes life easy for me. I can watch his movies and not have to do anything. Just let the good times roll. In "Sudden Impact," Im-pact," as with many of his films, the good times is revenge, baby. Dirty Harry meets Dirty Mary (Sondra Locke) ; she's trying to kill all the guys who gang raped her 10 years earlier. With so many rapists going free these days, it's easy to see why revenge tales are big businesses. Producer-director Eastwood, looking great at 53, develops plenty of crackling crackl-ing excitement here, and interestingly interesting-ly creates in Locke a destroying angel character not unlike his own. Strong R for much gratuitious and graphic violence, especially toward women; rape; profanity, including "swell"; excremental humor, sex nudity. 'A Star is Born' () (WW-3 Ch-2 OC-3 Sk-4) This story of fame and how it can kill a marriage was filmed in the 30's, 50's and 70's, with Garland's 2' hour 1954 version the best. Too long, but great acting and music. A new process makes the film look and sound better than the original print. Probably PG for adult themes taking Food Dollars Count New Shopping Habits Can Help Families Save A four person family on a tight budget can eat nutritiously nutri-tiously for $58 a week . . . but chances are they will have to change some of their shopping habits. Recent government surveys sur-veys indicated that many people spend a lot more for food than necettary and still don't get aU the nutrients they should. Nutritionists have developed devel-oped food plans that overcome over-come this problem. They shift more of the scarce food dollars to vegetables and fruits, to grain products, prod-ucts, to milk and to dry beans and peas. Theite are economical sources of nutrients nutri-ents that came up short In the dirts of many of the households surveyed-cal-cium, Iron, magnesium, tine and folacln.
