The defending 3-A state champion, Uintah High School, has a dual meet record of 1-0. . Wasatch, defending 2-A champ, jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the meet due to three wins in the first three matches. mat-ches. Ripple pinned Shelton Humphries, Hum-phries, 98, in the first round and Trimble Trim-ble won the 105 pound match when he nipped Uintah Ute Ryan Siddoway, 6-5. Bonner nipped Jerry Tingey, 4-3, for a 112 pound triumph: Ripple decked deck-ed Humphries in the first round for a take down and then pocketed a pin. Siddoway garnered two takedowns in-the in-the first round for a 4-1 lead. Trimble scored an escape in the first round. Wasatch Wasp Trimble netted a takedown and Siddoway garnered an escape to take a lead of 5-3 into the final round. Trimble gained a penalty point to cut Siddoway's lead to 5-4 and then gained a reversal for a one point win. Bonner scored a takedown in the first round and an escape in the second round for a 3-0 lead. Tingey scored an escape and takedown in the third round to tie up the match at 3-3, but Bonner scored the winning points on an escape. , Uintah High School nabbed its first points in the meet when Craig Funk, 119, pinned S. Kelly in the second round. The pin for a win by Funk narrowed nar-rowed the Wasatch lead to six points at 12-6. Funk scored a takedown in the first round and added an escape and takedown in the second round. Wasatch stopped Uintah's winning streak at one match when Budd downed down-ed Uintah's 126 pounder, Leslie Gorman, Gor-man, 5-2. The match was tied at 0-0 after two rounds. Budd scored his five points in the third round on a reversal and three-point near fall. Gorman pocketed a reversal in the third round. The win gave Wasatch a 15-6 lead. Mike Smith of Uintah delivered the second win to his team when he defeated Briely, 5 to 2 in the 132 pound match. Smith scored a takedown in the first round for a 2-1 lead. Briely scored an escape in the first round. The second se-cond round was scoreless, but the third round was not as Smith pocketed three points on an escape and takedown for a 5-2 victory. Briely added penalty points in the third round. Wasatch grabbed its biggest lead of the meet at 16 points with two wins in the next two matches. Sweat, 138, pinned Uintah's George Cook in the second se-cond round and J. Kelly thumped 145 pounder Kenny Campbell, 14 to 3, to give Wasatch a 25-0 advantage. Sweat grabbed a 5-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and three-point near fall and increased it to 7-0 on a reversal in the second round. Kelly jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the first round of his match with Campbell due to two takedowns and a three-point near fall. Campbell scored an escape. Kelly added add-ed a takedown in the second round and escape, takedown and reversal in the third round. Campbell pocketed escapes in the second and third round. The Uintah Utes were behind by 16 points with only four matches left, but the didn't panic and their coolness was rewarded with four wins in the final four matches and a 30-25 triumph over the Wasps. Uintah's 155 pounder Gary Murray blanked Jensen, 4-0 and Chad Bedell, 167, pinned Jepperson in the third round to bring the Utes within seven points of the Wasatch lead at 25-18. Murray captured a 2-0 lead in the, first round on a takedown and added a reversal in the third round. Jepperson made the Wasps happy with a takedown in the first round, but Bedell made Wasatch rooters sad as he gained gain-ed a reversal and three-point near fall in the first round for a 5-2 lead. I , fiL A 16 point Wasatch lead dropped to one point at 25-24 when Uintah's 185 pounder, Mike Slaugh, pinned Bergner in the third round. Slaugh gained a 4-0 lead in the first round on a takedown and a two-point near fall and increased increas-ed his lead to 9-0 with a reversal and three-point near fall in the second round. Slaugh added a two-point near fall and a penalty point in the third round for a 12-0 lead. Victory hopes by the Wasatch Wasps were destroyed when Sunkees pinned Nielson in the first round to make the final score: Uintah, 30 and Wasatch, 25. Uintah had ten takedowns in the meet and Wasatch pocketed six. The Utes pocketed seven escapes and Wasatch had five. Uintah gained five reversals and Wasatch had four. The Utes had four falls and Wasatch had two. Uintah pocketed six near falls and the Wasps had three. Uintah and Wasatch won six matches each. The Uintah Utes will take part in the Steamboat Springs Tournament, Friday Fri-day and Saturday. The Utes are defending defen-ding champions. Uintah will battle Rock Springs on the road, Dec. 8 and will host Union, Friday, Dec. 9. The Uintah JV Tournament is set for December 10. Uintah will take part in the Rock Springs Tournament, Dec. 16 and 17. Uintah will battle Green River in Wyoming, Dec. 21 and will host Orem in a region meet, Dec. 22. Uintah will host Provo, Jan. 5. Vernal to encounter Duchesne Vernal Junior High's girl basketball team will battle Duchesne in an away game, Thursday, Dec. 1 and will battle bat-tle Roosevelt, Dec. 15 and Altamont, Dec. 21 on the road. The Panthers will battle West Junior High on the road, Jan. 10 and will host Duchesne, Jan. 12.
