On Wednesday she was one of the first in the world to sec the brand new 3D version of the film. Director screenwriter Mark Lewis explained that the entire film had to be reshot to take full advantage of the new technology and the results are "ribbitting." The documentary cleverlv illustrates the unforeseen consequences of an attempt to introduce a new species into non-native habitat. In the 1930s sugar-cane farmers in Queensland, Australia, imported a suitcase full of toads in hopes that they would eat the beetles that were decimating their crops. It soon became apparent, though, that the toads were not interested in the beetles, and what is more, they had begun multiplying prolifically. With a wry sense of humor and stunning digital 3D photography. Lewis shows the rampant population of pesky toads overrunning the conti- nent. He also interviews a number of toad hunters, toad collectors and a couple whose dog becomes addicted to licking toads to get high. The special screening of a Sundance film at the high school is an annual event and its part of the Sundance Institutes outreach program in the local community. The lesson is compelling and amusing. It is no wonder the original "Cane Toads" became a cult classic among science teachers. Duis1 only concern now is how to convince the Park City Board of Education to spring for 3D projectors for her classroom. Utah's #1 designer consignment store - / -/ -t- -V J-LJ-7 # r !
