Panel OKs redo of dub Racquet Club work could start as early as May By JAY HAMBURGER Of the Record staff A panel on Wednesday night approved a major renovation to the Racquet Club, agreeing to grant City Hall the permit needed to pursue the work after what was an unexpectedly tough set of meetings. The Park City Planning Commission approved the renovation on a 4-0 vote. Though there was not a dissenting vote, commissioners had difficulty over the course of several meetings crafting an approval that they would endorse. They touched on numerous topics during the meetings like the proposed height of the redone building and the hours construction crews would be allowed to work. The designers in the weeks before the Wednesday meeting lopped off between two and six feet of height from the proposal, with the greater amount being removed from the entry to the Racquet Club. Meanwhile, the Planning Commission in their approval limited the work hours to between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturdays, a schedule that is tighter than City Halls typical restrictions on construction crews. Work will be prohibited on six holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. "We've got a large tennis community. A recreation-oriented community that wants nice facilities," Ken Fisher, the official who manages City Hall's recreation programs, said after the Planning Commission vote. He said City Hall wants to start the work as early as May, and the work is projected to last IS months. Funding for the $10.5 million renovation has already been set aside in the municipal budget.
