A vote for me is a vote for freedom. Sonya Ray Please differentiate yourself from your opponents Constitution Party Roland Uresk Democrat My campaign is about bringing the voice of the people back to the Legislature. The arrogance of the legislature, telling us what is best for us and not listening to what we think, is wrong. When two-thirds of the voters say no to a tax cut and direct the money be spent on education, and that's not done, it's time for change. I'm the candidate to do that. My experience in local government, my understanding of the issues and my experience with the Legislature make me the candidate to let the voice of the people be heard. As a Democrat I can bring balance to the Legislature. As a moderate politician raised on rural conservatism, I can represent all of the district. I would not yield to the threats of the majority leadership to vote for what they want rather that what my constituents want. I under- A-9 The Park Record Roland Uresk stand the issues and have taken positions that are practical and not mainstream politics. I am open to innovative ideas to solve state problems. I can bring the voice of. the people back to the Legislature. Learn more about my position on issues at uresk.org. I ask for your support on Nov. 7. My two opponents belong to different parties (Democrat and Republican) but nationally, their parties seem to have the same agenda - more welfare-state entitlements (Socialism), more deficit spending and more world government. This is evident by looking at the Utah delegation in Washington, D.C. They all voted for, NAFTA and CAFTA, and didnt complain when President Bush signed the SPP (Security and Prosperity Partnership for North America), which would merge Canada, United States, and Mexico into a North American Union similar to the European Union. They also supported the U.S. Patriot Act, which strips citizens of some of their most basic rights. The Constitution Party, on the other hand, is the only party interested in reining in government and getting back to the proper functions of government and constitutional principles. The goal of the Constitution Party is to restore Kevin VanTassell Republican Sonya Ray American jurisprudence to its Biblical foundations and to limit the federal government to its constitutional boundaries. The proper function of government is to protect the inalienablerightsof the citizens, the God-given rights of life, liberty and property. When the government assumes any other Growing up on a farm, I learned to work hard and the importance of honesty, integrity and ethics. The way leaders live their life is a reflection of how they'll lead. I'll be a strong voice for truth. I love my family and have a desire that all our families have the same quality of life that we've enjoyed. I'll fight hard to protect our families and this quality of life and values that we share. My experience in agriculture, mineral extraction and banking gives me a broad base to understand our district's needs and the ability to make decisions allowing private industry to succeed. Limited government, low taxes and a strong private sector provide for success. Government must be used sparingly. It's best when kept as close to the people a^ possible, Kevin VanTassell It has been a great experience to be a candidate for Senate District 26. I've had the opportunity to meet so many good people and to learn issues and challenges that affect your lives. We live in a great country and state where our, Constitutions give us the ability to govern ourselves by electing good women and men to represent us. U.S. House of Representatives Please differentiate yourself from your opponent Rob Bishop Republican, Incumbent Besides differences in basic philosophy and how much of an interfering role the government should play in our lives, I would say one of the biggest differences is experience. I spent 16 years in the state legislature, including a term as speaker of the house, dealing with legislative issues and solving problems. I spent 28 years in the classroom, teaching kids American government and history. I will continue to work to stop tjie federal government from infringing on the rights Rob Bishop of parents or the flexibility of schools to meet the needs of kids. And I have spent the past four years in congress representing northern Utah and defending our common values and interests. I have brought together interest groups and lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to find solutions and pass legislation -- including funding for projects in Summit County and our bill to preserve open space in Park City. I have a proven record of real results when it comes to strengthening our national security, defending our military installations, cutting taxes and reducing the deficit, and looking after our public lands. Experience, combined with the right values and principles, does make a difference. Steve Olsen them, Congressman Bishop votes for them. I will not be a rubber stamp in Congress. I will not vote for bills that violate our Utah values or interests just because I'm ordered to by party leadership. And I will not complain of failure because the bills I worked on didnt pass because of Senate opposition to their narrow, partisan focus. As an engineer, I know the best solutions come from getting all the ideas on the table and forming a broad consensus for solving America's problems. The Constitution was created by such a process, and it produces the best legislation. I have the skills to take the diversity in Congress and turn it from partisan sniping to productive uses. always balance a budget; secure our borders and ports; establish accountability for the incompetent and fraudulent; and inspire our children to be productive, intelligent, active citizens. We also significantly disagree on how our government should work. He believes in retaining office through a system that depends on keeping the general public uninformed and cynical towards politics. Enabling the American voice to focus on our toughest problems will eliminate apathy towards our government. Implementing transparency in our representation will ensure that American public interest comes before private. This change will start by electing Pete Ashdown. Pete Ashdown Steve Olsen Democrat Congressman Bishop is a good man, but he does not represent Utah, he represents the national Republican Party. His voting record conforms 97 percent of the time to orders from party leadership, as they have abandoned their own principles and sold Congress to powerful special interests. He claims to be against excessive spending and talks a good talk, but while independent Western Democrats like Jim Matheson and principled Republicans like Jeff Flake have spoken eloquently against porkladen budgets and voted against U.S. Senate Please differentiate yourself from your opponent Orrin Hatch Republican, Incumbent I work as hard for Utah today as I did on Day One, and I have a proven track record of getting things done. The stakes are high for Utah right now, and I have the vision, drive, and capacity to make a difference for our state. Over the years, I've earned the respect of my colleagues, and I have the experience to get things past all legislative hurdles. In fact, I was recently ranked sixth for getting bills through the Senate last year. Everything 1 do benefits Utah. I believe I represent the values and views of most Utahns. We believe in lower taxes, less government, fewer regulations, less centralized power and a wiser use of the power that must be exercised on behalf of the people. We believe in providing true compassion to those struggling in America, not through government handouts, but through creating an *environment that. enables people to improve their condition. This is what Utahns want from the federal government, and they can count on me to deliver. I believe in the promise of this great state. I pledge to work with courage and conviction to ensure that our communities' needs are met in Congress. I am a native Utahn, born and raised in Bountiful, went to Utah schools, and built a successful business in Utah. As an entrepreneur, I know how to balance a budget, pay for health care, and give back to our community. Since founding XMission, I have seen changes in Utah's economy and society -changes my opponent doesn't recognize. I am a father, with children whose future I want to be better. With all of these items, I bring a different perspective on what government can do and what it should do.
