Pack was listed as a part of March's Faces in the Crowd feature. Pack became the youngest athlete selected to the U.S. National Ski Team at the age of 12 last April. She earned her spot after finishing fifth at the U.S. Freestyle Championships, where she competed against female skiers of all ages. She qualified for the U.S. championships after winning the Junior Olympic Aerials competition in March. Cheerleading tryouts The Park City High School cheerleading tryouts will be held March 9-16 in the high school gymnasium. There will be a pre-tryout informational meeting in the school fishbowl on Wednesday, March 2 from 2:30-3:30 p.m. A mandatory parent/student meeting for all candidates trying out will be held on Thursday, March 3 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the high school lecture room. For Brady and Felicia Canfield, life is a balance of family, work and ice By ADIA WALDBURGER Of the Record staff Sonic couples choose to bond over candlelight dinners or lazy walks in the park. Not so for the Felicia and Brady Canfield. The Park City couple spend llieir quality lime together sliding down an icy track at top speeds training for international competitions. Pursuing an Olympic sport together may not seem to be I he sluff that romance novels are made of, but for the Canficlds, il lias become a way of life. They set a record in February as the only married couple to take first place on the same day at the final America's Cup event in Lake Placid, N.Y. Felicia had runs of 57.35 and 57.75 for a combined lime of 1 minule and 55.10 seconds. Brady captured the gold with identical runs of 55.55 for a total time of 1:51.10. Both husband and wife came from second place after their first runs to lake first. In fact, Brady's competitive fire was ignited after lie learned of his wife's win. "Thai's why I won the race. [After learning about Felicia's gold] I really had to put it down. No holding back." said Brady. The Canficlds have been together for almost 19 years. They met at Northern Arizona University. The two originally spotted each other when Felicia saw Brady in a dormitory lobby while she was warming up for a dance performance. Brady was cleaning up after a party and spilled a half-empty keg of beer down in his back. Needless to say, he did noi use this opportunity to meet the young co-ed. Afler moving to Utah with the military, he went from being a "weekend-warrior" slider to a competitive luge athlete, and made the national team. Al the same time. Felicia decided to attend law school at the University of Ulah and helped Brady by traveling to the track and taking pictures and lending moral support. One day, someone asked Felicia if she wanted to try. "I tried il once. I took a run and loved it." said Felicia. She attended a skeleton school course al the Utah Olympic Park and began her career. Felicia, who was born and raised in American Samoa, was soon contacted by the U.S. territory's skeleton federation JASON HUNTER/PARKRECORD and asked if she would slide for them. Luge season wraps up with National Championships By ADIA WALDBURGER Of the Record staff It was a bit of a sneak puck of next year's U.S. Olympic leam as many of nation s top sliders wrapped up competition on Sunday at the 2005 Verizon U.S. Senior National Luge Championships at the Ulah Olympic Park (UOP). In the men's event, Tony Benshoof (White Bear Lake, Minn.) turned in a gold medal performance claiming the men's singles title with a four-heal combined time of three minutes and 03.382 seconds. "Going into a year when you are a contender, my motivation is going to be higher than ever, but I'm not thinking about lhat until May," said Benshoof.
