Show The Park Record A-16 Wed/Thurs/Fri, October 6-8, 2004 SUMMIT i ty TM Three unique resorts in one exciting town. Chamber of Commerce Convention & Visitors Bureau Letter From the President Dear Chamber Members, As this year's president of the Park City ChambenBureau, it has been my pleasure to be involved in numerous activities and endeavors. Serving on the Chamber's marketing council affords me the opportunity lo work with lodging, dining and resort interests in finding ways lo maximize the use of marketing dollars and driving business to our area from leisure and business travelers during both summer and winter. My recent participation in the annual City Tour has given me a better understanding of where our " competitor communities stand in relation to our own strengths and weaknesses. In my many responsibilities on behalf of the Chamber, perhaps nothing is more important than encouraging our business community to not only register to vote but to please take a few minutes and to turn out to the polls on November 2. A new Web site www.ulahstalcbusinessvotes.com is an excellent resource for businesses and their employees lo find voter registration information, candidate profiles and early voting information. This service is a partnership between the United Stales Chamber of Commerce and the Utah Slate Chamber Association. It is designed as a nonpartisan service lo convey the importance of voting to the business community Please be sure to utilize Ihis resource and remind your employees to participate in the electoral process. It is perhaps the most meaningful way lo spend a Tuesday morning in November. Sincerely, Monty Coates Park City Promotes M&C Product at Affordable Meetings Tradeshow Jana Brown attended the Affordable Chamber's Fall Media Tour in Full Swing Mark Bennett and Hilary Rcilcr. who comprise the Chamber's communications department, are currently hitting the road to some of Park City's top markets for the purpose of updating travel editors and reporters on the latest news for the upcoming winlcr season. These face-to-face meetings have proven lo be a very effective means lo securing Park Cily travel features in various regional magazines and newspapers. Bennett and Reiter recently completed a successful trip to San Francisco, along with PR representatives Irom The Canyons. Deer Valley, and Park City Mountain Resort. While there, they split up into two teams lo maximize the number of meetings with key publications such as San Francisco Chronicle. 7.i7 Magazine, San Francisco Magazine and Wave Magazine. Thanks to the abundance of inexpensive, direct flights to Salt I-akc Cily, all the journalists recognized the tremendous value that Quick START offers Bay Area vacationers and were impressed by the success the program saw last year. Other trends that were of interest were Ihe popularity of terrain parks and the lessons being offered in them and non-ski activities such as luxury spa treatments, cultural offerings, dining, and nightlife. Follow-up efforts have begun, and we are gelling strong indicators that these meetings will result in terrific media exposure for Park City. The Chamber and resorts hosted a dinner at a newly opened San Francisco restaurant for 10 Bay Area-based freelance journalists on the final evening. This was a great way to build new relationships with writers in this important market and to better familiarize them with Park City's winter product. Some attendees have already expressed interest in getting a first-hand Park Ciiy experience this winter. This week Bennett heads to New York City lo attend Ski Utah's annual media reception, during which time he has also scheduled media calls. This annual event is a key opportunity to showcase Utah skiing lo influential, national media based in the city. He will then move on to Washington, D.C. to meet with journalists there. Reiter will be in Denver lo network with writers at a North American Snowsports Journalists Association conference. Later this month, Rciterand Bennett will be hitting the Los Angeles market to meet with publications there, host another dinner for local freelance writers, and host an additional dinner for Powder Magazine and ihe Transworld publications.
