Entire class has bought Lance Armstrong's yellow wrist bands for cancer research Roberson developed the idea watching the Tour de France this summer. About Armstrong, Sierra Smith said, "He's a really good biker and he won the Tour de France six times. It's a bike race in France that lasts for like 20 days and it's over 1,000 miles." Armstrong recovered from cancer because he didn't give up. Sierra said, noting, "He just never gave up at anything." The bands cost $1 each, and McPolin fourth-graders have bought 90 of them. - "We have 90 $1 bills all crumpled up in there to send for cancer research," Johanson said. D E E R V A L L E ose. One of them is service, teaching the importance of making a contribution, Johanson said. The other is survivorship. '"(Armstrong) is a survivor in the biggest way,"' Johanson said. "Everybody else's problems look small next to his." So if kids are having trouble with math or 'handwriting or whatever, they can just look down and their wrists and remember to "Live Strong."
