Show 76 trombones and rolling drums "xMusic Man' comes to WX High WOODS CROSS With the glitter of crashing cymbals, the thunder of rolling drums, and the heralding of 76 trombones, the stirring "Music Man' will open at Woods Cross High School this Thursday, Jan. 24, at 7 p.m., and will play nightly but Sunday, through Monday, Jan. 28. Set in River City, Iowa, in the year 1910, 'Music Man" is the story of a swindling salesman (played by Jason Smith) who moves from town to town selling the idea of a boys' band and then absconding with the money entrusted to him. In River cityjie successfully charms the Widow Paroo (Natalie Harris), her young son Winthrop (Jared Beckstrand) and Win-throp's Win-throp's would-be girlfriend Amaryllis (Kaylene Harris.) With the aid of his old side-kick Marcellus (Mike Knight), he even manages to con the pompous Mayor Shinn and his wife Eulalie (Brian Butler and Kim Porter), the mayor's daughter, Zeneeta (Brittany Blaser), and the town "hoodlum" Tommy (Greg Gehring). In the process, wonderful changes begin to happen in the little town. Even the music man gets caught up in his own magic and falls in love with the only person who is wise to him, the local librarian, Marian Paroo (Nanette Clark). With his exposure as a fraud imminent, the musical reaches its surprising climax and its heartwarming and exuberant conclusion. conclu-sion. Containing such delightful songs as "Pick-A-Lmie, Talk-a-Little," "Lida Rose," "Goodnight, My Someone," and "Seventy-Six Trombones," Trom-bones," "Music Man" has been one of the all-time audience favorites. Under the direction of Bonni Hobbs, with Linda Smith as music director, Earlene Blaser as choreographer and Sheila Price in charge of sets, it will be performed by a cast of over 1 50 Woods cross High School students.
