Show Ladies boast perfect week Bountiful with a game at Tooele on Tuesday. BOUNTIFUL 52 WEST 46 BOUNTIFUL 55 TOOELE 39 On Tuesday at West, the Braves broke open a close game in the fourth four-th period, as Nikki Hanni and Jenny Gardner scored six points apiece down the stretch. West led 35-34 entering the final period, but the Braves moved to 2-0 with the win as Hanni scored 15 and Gardner 14. Kim Reimann added seven and Allison Drown six for Bountiful. Friday's game at Bountiful belonged to Hanni, who had her second se-cond 29-point game in league play as the Braves blasted Tooele. Bountiful Boun-tiful ran to a 26-16 halftime lead and never looked back. Hanni got great support from Reimann with 12 points, Camille Dupaix with six and Gardner with four. The Braves, now 3-0 in league, 6-3 overall, will host Murray on Tuesday and travel to Woods Cross on Friday. VIEWMONT 48 ROY 31 After a three-week layoff, the Vike and picked up a league-opening league-opening victory against Roy. Viewmont took an early lead and was never headed as the Vikes moved to 5-4 overall. Shannon Morrow and Mandy Miller scored 11 each, Jennifer Jones added nine, Heather Le Mmon eight and Nicki Burnham with seven. Viewmont will travel to Bonneville next Friday for its only game of the week. DAVIS 65 CLEARFIELD 59 Don't look now, but the Lady Darts are surging, as Davis won its third game in its last five with a big victory in Kaysville over the Falcons. The Lady Darts, now 1-1 in league and 3-7 overall, built a 15-point 15-point lead before holding off the Lady Birds. The Darts had four in double figures, fig-ures, led by Jodi Wimmer and Chauny Morgan with 14 points, Reagan Taylor with 1 1 and Rebecca Heusser with 10. Davis, which may have the youngest team in the state, lost its first five games but has really real-ly come on the past three weeks. By TOM HARALDSEN SALT LAKE CITY Woods Cross High basketball coach Debbie Peel reached a remarkable milestone Friday afternoon as the Lady Wildcats edged West 44-42 in Region Six action. The victory was Peels 200th on a varsity level, not counting the many wins she's enjoyed en-joyed as a JV coach. Just as important, the Wildcats moved to 2-1 in league play with the win over the Panthers on a day when all four local girls' teams were victorious. At West, the Wildcats fought back from a 10-6 deficit to move to 6-3 on the year as Amy Tinman and Heather Hall combined for 31 points. Turman had 19 and Hall 12 as the 'Cats built a 36-32 lead entering enter-ing the fourth period. Noell Goodrich also chipped in with five points and and Maureen Newland had four for the Wildcats. "I feel kind of runny," Peel said following the victory. "I'm not sure if I thought I'd be coaching long enough to win 200 games, but it still feels very good to win." Considering Consider-ing the popular Wildcat coach has taken numerous teams to state finals in both volleyball and basketball, and won state titles in both sports, it's easy to see why Peel is one of the most respected coaches on any level in Utah's history. Woods Cross earned Peel a 199th victory with a 61-41 shellacking of Granite on Tuesday. Goodrich scored 10 second-quarter points on her way to a game-high 18, Turman added 12 and Amy Christ en sen eight for the Wildcats, which will gear up for Friday's showdown at |
