Show Open house highlights Fire Prevention Week instructions and ideas for creating your own fire escape plan. To make people aware of this state-wide fire drill, 80 radio stations will sound an alarm over the air at 6:30 p.m. on October 10th. A 30-minute "Plan to Get Out Alive" program will be broadcast on KSL Television (Channel 5) on Sunday, October 15 at 3:30 p.m. It will offer an in-depth look at the reality of a fire: According to Chief Argyle of the South Davis Fire District, the theme,"Big Fires Start Small: Keep matches and lighters in the right hands" is appropriate. "Keeping matches, lighters and other heat sources where children can't obtain them is a good way to start making your home more fire safe," the chief says. On Saturday, October 14 from 8 a.m. until dusk, the South Davis Fire District's three stations Fire Prevention Week for 1989 will be held October 8 through 14. The national theme for this year is "Big Fires Start Small: Keep matches mat-ches and lighters in the right hands!" All fire departments in South Davis County will be participating par-ticipating in many activities during this week including open houses and the observance of a statewide fire drill scheduled for Tuesday, October Oc-tober 10 at 6:30p.m. The purpose of the statewide drill is to help children and their families plan in advance so they can safely escape their homes in case of fire. -Over four out of five fires that occur each year are home fires. Over half of the fire-related deaths are children."These statistics could be greatly reduced if people would take the time to make a home fire escape plan and carry it out" said Lynn Borg, Utah state Fire Marshal. In conjunction with the home fire drill, McDonald's restaurants and r Utah Power & Light will be assisting local fire departments with the Plan to Get Out Alive program. All Utah fire departments and McDonald's are distributing free home fire escape planning sheets. Each plan includes home fire drill South Davis Fireman Jim Rampton with his robot firetruck, "Freddy, the Fire Engine," will be featured at open houses during dur-ing Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 8-1 4. In addition to demonstrations, demonstra-tions, fire-fighting equipment will be on display. will host open houses. Freddy, the Fire Engine, will move from station to station giving demonstrations and educating young people in an entertaining way. Fire fighting equipment will be displayed. Video tape messages will be on-going. There will be brochures and instructional instruc-tional material available to those interested in-terested in specific fire-related ' topics. The Bountiful Fire Department will have a wide variety of activities scheduled for National Fire Prevention Preven-tion Week. There will be handouts, balloons, special guests every night, games, movies, and drawings for fire safety products and the "Fire Chjef of the Day" feature. This is part of the "Plan to Get Out Alive" program. Bountiful' s activities will culminate in the statewide home fire drill. i Farmington's Fire Department will participate by hosting an open house. |
