BLODGETT BOUNTIFUL - There's more to winterizing your home than insulation insula-tion and door jambs. In fact, probably the most important impor-tant heat-saving device in your home is the furnace, according to Bob Arbuckle, owner of Freeway Heating and Air Conditioning. "People sometimes get so wrapped-up in insulation and other heat-saving devices that they forget about their furnace'-said Mr. Ar buckle. "All energy-saving devices are important, but the most money saved will come from a smoothly-operating smoothly-operating furnace.' He noted that a stf6oihly-operating stf6oihly-operating fumance will also provide efficient and consistent heating of the home, thus providing a more consistent temperature for less money. "But furnaces need regular maintenance and some repairs and replacement parts to continue their efficient opeiation," he emphasiz ed. "For some people, they can do the maintenance themselves, but for others, a regular maintenance service ser-vice - just Uke a tuneup of a car should be (tone by a specialist." ' For those do-it-yourselvers, there is a checklist to follow - providing you are familiar with the various parts of a furnace, and how those parts are supposed to operate. The checklist includes: Check the burners end adjust the pilot assembly. A yellow flame indicates in-dicates the parts are dirty. Check the thermostat Adjust burners for highest effi- ciency. ; Check operation of the gas valve. . Check the thermocouple. Inspect the heat exchanger, and clean if necessary. - Inspect the blower belt for wear, cracks and be certain it fits properly. prop-erly. ' ' Inspect wiring on the furnace.
