Show Bountiful resident receives national award ;. V ; By JAMS STUART BOUNTIFUL Richard A. Knott, C.P.M. of Bountiful, has been recognized rec-ognized by the National Association Associa-tion of Purchasing Management of Utah. The "Gordon Burt Affleck . Award" was given to Knott for his outstanding performance as Coordinator Coor-dinator for Materials Management at the Intermountain Health Care Systems. The award is named after Gordon' Affleck, who worked for the L.D.S. Church for 35 years. It recognizes outstanding members of the NAPM of Utah who have made the greatest contributions to the purchasing profession, pro-fession, hisher firm, and the Purchasing Pur-chasing Association. Knott was chosen for the award -after being nominated by this local association.' "This is quite an honor because I was chosen by members of my own profession, said Mr. Knott. Knott has been in the health care industry for over 27 years. His initial in-itial assignment was in inventory and stores. He organized the stores system of the University of Utah Hospital in 1964 and in 1968 was appointed Purchasing Agent for the Cottonwood Hospital. ' In 1974, Richard was appointed Assistant Director of Material Management for the L.D.S. and Primary Children's Hospitals, and in 1979, he was appointed Director. In 1981, Mr. Knott was made Coordinator Co-ordinator for Materials Management Manage-ment of the Southern Regional Hospitals, Intermountain Health Care. He is currently coordinating the furnishings and equipment purchases pur-chases for the new 206-bed Primary Children's Medical Center. . Knott has written and co-authored co-authored several articles and books on hospital purchasing and vendor relations. He became a member of NAMP of Utah in 1964. He passed his Certification Exams to receive his Certified Purchasing Manager (CP.M.) in 1981. He has served that organization as treasurer, secretary, vice president, and then in 1978 was elected president In 1980, he served as the association representative to the national organization. RICHARD A. KNOTT Knott has also been able to find the time to participate in civic activities. ac-tivities. "For five years, I was involved in-volved with the 'Handcart Days' celebrations," he stated. He was instrumental in-strumental in getting the sky divers, medics and old autos involved in the parade. Not stopping, even after all of these successes, Knott is now involved in-volved with a local scout troop in getting residents to fly the American flag on appropriate holidays. |
