Show . i t Feml Limes By TOM HARALDSEN Clipper Sports Editor, Because space is limited this week, I'll forgo my usual brilliant commentary and simply congratulate the local athletes who are having great years thus farv Bountiful and Woods Cross are dominant in football, Viewmont is strong as always in boys' cross country, Davis has an outstanding golf team that should win state, and girls' soccer and tennis programs are going well The Lady Wildcats of Woods Cross have proven a pleasant surprise in volleyball as well. As far as predictions go, last week was a heartbreaker, as UCLA lost in the last second to Michigan, Wyoming lost in the final minute to Washington State, and Weber State narrowly lost to Idaho. Throw in Davis' loss to Bonneville, and it was a 5-4 week, bringing the season mark to 21-9. Here's this week's guesses: BOUNTIFUL 28 JORDAN 24This should be the game of the week, as the Braves encounter their stiffest test yet this year. Bountiful's defense should be the difference in the end WOODS CROSS 28 TOOELE 20-Going to Tooele will be difficult for the 'Cats, as it is hard to win there, much less want to go there. But Woods Cross should prevail if its offense maintains the intensity its shown the past two weeks. DAVIS 35 LAYTON 7-The Darts arc angry, hungry, and probably won't lose another regular season game this year. Davis should handle the Lancers if it keeps from turning the ball over.' VIEWMONT 14 WEBER 13-This would be somewhat of an upset, but the Vikes best chance for another league win is against the Warriors. Should the Vikes win this and go to 3-0 in league, anything is possible, even with a schedule that includes Roy, Davis and Bonneville the rest of the way. - BYU31 UTAH STATE 17-The Aggies will probably play the Cougars tougher than they did at USCand Illinois, but USU stinks defensively. UTAH 42 SAN DIEGO STATE 38-This one should be a lot of fun, unless, of course, you're a defensive coordinator. If Utah loses, the season goes down the tubes completely, so look for Utah to prevail. MONTANA 31 WEBER 241 figure if I bet against the Wildcats, they'll win. USC 38 WASHINGTON STATE 17-The visit to Disneyland, and the top 20, is over for Mike Price and the Cougars. JUDGE 9 WOODS CROSS 0 JORDAN 3 WOODS CROSS 1 A strong Judge team dominated the 'Cats on Monday, but the determined deter-mined Woods Cross squad came back with a strong effort against Jordan. The goal by Alisha Brad-shaw, Brad-shaw, assisted by Debbie Christensen, fell short of securing a victory. It was a mixed bag of results for high school girls' soccer teams last week, with the following results reported: . 5 BOUNTIFUL 9 GRANITE 0 The Lady Braves overwhelmed the Granite Farmers Wednesday. Danielle Eastman, Cody Poole and Tracy Bingham scored two goals each, while Alicia Hassett, Karin Van Home and Molly Mercereachi added a goal m Bountiful's shutout DAVIS 2 ROY 2 ALTAI DAVIS 0 The Lady Darts tied Roy on the srjxagAofrgoabbyErrinNklsen, bat lost to Alt after the Hawks scored on a penalty kick. - VIEWMONT 2 WEBER 2 VIEWMONT 4 ROY 3 x . ' T. Amber Muna and Tonya Black both scored against Weber, but the wm eluded the Vikes. The girb came back Friday with a win in overtime against Roy. Annie Garlock, Heidi Gloshien and Allison Austin all scored in the victory. : , v - - - - |
