Show Utah authors win in children's manuscript contest Three Utah authors are winners of the Deseret Book children's, manuscript contest Each will receive $1,000 in cash. Winners were named for entries in three categories: picture book fiction; fiction, fic-tion, chapter-book fiction; chapter-book chapter-book nonfiction. No prize was awarded in the category of picture book nonfiction. Barbara J, Porter's "Grandpa and Me and the Wishing Star," was chosen as the winner in the picture book fiction category. The author, who resides in Bountiful, has never previously published any of her work. In the category of chapter-book fiction, Donald R. Marshall's "The Enchantress of Crumbledown" was chosen as the winner. Marshall is a professor of English and humanities at Brigham Young University and resides in Orem. His previous publications pub-lications include collections of short stories in "Rummage Sale," "Frost in the Orchard," and a novel, "Zinnie Stokes, Zinnie Stokes." "The Lord Needed a Prophet," by Susan Arrington Madsen, won the nonfiction chapter book award. Madsen, a resident of Hyde Park, is co-author of the book "Mothers of the Prophets" and "Christmas: A Joyful Heritage," and the author of "Sunbonnet Sisters." |
