Show Comm. told problems far outweigh benefits of Wasatch front pipeline By LYNN BURTON Dave Brown, representing the Bountiful Hills Residents and Concerned Con-cerned Citizens' Association, asked the Davis County Commission to issue a proclamation requesting a congressional investigation of the Wasatch Variation Natural Pipeline planning and procedure. He reported that Bountiful's Mayor, Dean Stahle, has already made the j same request of Congressman Wayne Owens to ensure that,, among other things, no "shortcuts" have been taken. Mr. Brown also said that his group, chaired by Renee Kuhn, had presented documents to the Davis County "Planning Commission for review, but that the planners had taken a "hands off 'stance. The citizens' group has concerns centering around the ap-. propriateness of the suggested -pipeline route. Mr. Brown express-edfiuzzlement express-edfiuzzlement over plans that included in-cluded Utah because it is one of the least developed states and then pro- ceeded to try to put the pipeline through the most developed part of it He included Mike Lowell, Davis County Geologist, among those concerned about watersheds, public safety and the impact the pipeline could have on recreational areas Such as Mueller Park. Commissioners Peters and Lawrence have consulted with Congressman Owens about alternatives alter-natives to the Wasatch Variation route. Com. Gayle Stevenson expressed ex-pressed the feelings of himself and Com. Peters that the commissioners need to review the material sub-. sub-. mitted by Mr. Brown and the status , of the project before taking action or issuing a proclamation. Mr. Brown thanked the commissioners commis-sioners for their consideration and time, both for himself and the other members of the Bountiful Hills .Residents and Concerned Citizens : Group. He emphasized that the project pro-ject is "past the information stage" and that many area residents are -convinced that the problems in this case far outweigh the benefits. |
