Show Val James Stuart I i 1 LA 0 Val James Stuart, 50, died Dec. 2, 1988 in Loma Linda, Calif. A native of Utah , he was a resident of Redlands, Calif, for 19 years. Raised in Kaysville, and educated edu-cated in Davis County schools, Stuart was a graduate of Davis j High School and received an asso ciate degree from Weber State College. Col-lege. He earned his bachelor's degree in music and voice from the University Uni-versity of Utah and his master's degree, also in music and voice, from Indiana University. Stuart has taught voice at the University of Redlands; Scripps College in Claremont; Riverside City College; the University of California, Riverside; and California Califor-nia State University, San Bernardino. As a tenor he has performed with the Utah Symphony, Ballet West, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Roger Wagner Chorale, William Hall Chorale, West End Opera, San Francisco Opera, San Diego Opera and numerous community productions. produc-tions. Stuart has toured Europe, South America and the Orient, and his voice has also been ,heard in movies and television commercials. commer-cials. He has directed opera and theater thea-ter and "has conducted choirs in Utah, Indiana and California. Stuart was the owner of Stuart and Co. in Redlands. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, most recently serving as the music chairman in the Redlands Fourth Ward where he conducted the 70 voice choir. They, under the baton of his assistant, performed in a VAL JAMES STUART West Bountiful Ward the night of his death.. They performed three concerts on Temple Square on Dec. 3 and another in Salt Lake City on Dec. 4. They returned home to sing at his funeral. Survivors include his wife, Jean-nine Jean-nine Stuart, Redlands; his mother, Alia Stuart, Kaysville; four sons, Jamieson Stuart and John Stuart, both of Redlands, Matthew Glen, Provo; and Robert "Bob" Stuart, Phoenix, Ariz.; two daughters, Valerie Blake and Jeri McDonald, both of Bountiful; one brother, Deon Stuart, Bountiful; one sister1, Glenna Forsyth, Kaysville; and five grandchildren. Funeral services were held Dec. 6 at the Redlands LDS Stake Center. Cen-ter. Bishop Mark Glade of the Fourth Ward officiated. Interment was at Hillside Memorial Park in Redlands, Calif. |
