Show Letters to the Editor Apologies Editor: After much research of my own on the Freeman article and people involved, I believe I can now fully disclose the origin of my article entitled, "Abortion-Another View," and at the same time reveal where I was wrong in my presentation. I believe I owe a sincere apology to several people. The things I have told the Chronicle thus far have been truthful, truth-ful, i.e., that I did not have, upon submission of my article to the Chronicle, a copy of the abortion article written by Dr. Johnson as it is published in the Freeman. I have written for and acquired a copy of this article since Nov. 14, the date my article was printed. The piece from which I quoted extensively, without making reference to the source, was an article clipped and given to me some time ago from the Utah Independent, a local newspaper. Dr. Johnson's name did not appear on my clipped reprint of his article, as it was passed to me by a subscriber sub-scriber to the paper who knew I was collecting any information I could find on the subject. My error, which I now realize is flagrant," lies in my failure to state as a source The Utah Independent, and further in that I failed to discover the author of the article printed in the paper and give him just credit. this right over vvnat she may think of as only a separated part of her body a born baby. If the conclusions seem ridiculous it is because the premises are ridiculous. D.W. Ricks Elimination Editor: While we are reorganizing the Union for smoking privileges, we should consider other reforms for the health and comfort of users of Union equipment. The grouping together of facilities is unbearable. One cannot enter a restroom to wash one's hands or straighten one's appearance without being overcome with the stench of thoughtless individuals who; use these rest areas for other activities. The polluting of the air and the discomfort caused by these individuals in-dividuals is far greater than thai caused by the smokers on carnp It is impossible to clean up to J meal without losing one's appem The solution is obvious. W merely have to make half of Union's restrooms off limits for ' elimination of human waste " would follow in the proud Vw of making certain eating are as limits to smokers, and rt wouHJo much to solve this far 9ate problem. P.N.S. Frost My whole hope and intent was to piece together the finest expression of truth, in agreement with my feelings, on the subject of abortion, and to have that expression published for all students to consider and contemplate. I hope no disgrace has come to that line of thinking. It would be sad to have those arguments dismissed because of the oversight and neglect of a writer. I extend apologies for the trouble caused the Chronicle and others, including the readers of the paper. Nevin Limburg Observed Editor: A few observations. First, having been an avid reader of Waldo's columns since their inception, I naturally looked with disdain at Waldo's incursion into the world of ad hominem in Tuesday's Chronicle. Such un-philosophical un-philosophical pejoratives as "misguided idiot" "just the ravings of a demented mind," "when a fool is in a position of power," etc. belies Waldo's philosophical education and makes one wonder what type of formal logic the Department of" Philosophy is dispensing these days. Tsk, tsk, Jim. Back to the elephant stories. Lastly, a word of appreciation for editor Bill Marling. The Chronicle has indeed taken a turn for the better this year (a phenomenon in itself) and editor Marling deserves a substantial share of the credit. There are a few notable photographic and verbal exceptions, ex-ceptions, of course, but overall it's nice to have editorial opinion once again confined to the editorial page. Also, the editorial cartoons are without equal-leaving the Deseret News and Tribune something (among a multitude) to work towards. Bill Mamson Double parked Editor: The same people that zoom by me when I'm thumbing to school are the same people whose parking spots I'm going to steal as soon as I can afford a car. I've never seen such inconsiderate, in-considerate, ignorant people. What is the big deal if you stop for ten seconds to let some frozen sucker into your car. He has the same destination as you do and chances are he is as late as you are.. C'mon people let's use our brains and have a little humanity. And don't be afraid girls. What kind of perverted rapist would be thumbing to the University with books in hand at 8:30 in the morning? And don't be afraid to give us peons a ride any other time either. Bo Barrett The right Editor: If a mother has the right to decide whether or not her unborn baby should live, then she certainly has the same right over her born children. For if she has the "right" because someone says an unborn baby is not a "true" living human being, then she could accept the belief that a child is not a "true" living human being until puberty or some other stage of life. If she thinks that the baby is only a part of her body and she has the "right over her own body," then she has |
