Show Controversy over Limburg allegation continues; opinions from both sides Correspondence Tuesday continued the controversy concerning a Chronicle editorial calling for Limburg's resignation. Mr. Limburg sent a letter to Chronicle Editor-in-Chief William Marling explaining the similarities of an article he submitted to the Chronicle "Abortion-Another View" and an article by Dr. Thomas Johnson in The Freeman. . Limburg stated that he received his information from an article in the Utah Independent. "My error, which I now realize is flagrant, lies in my failure to state as a source The Utah Independent, and further in that I failed to discover the author of the article printed in the paper and give him just credit," said Mr. Limburg. Only the truth "My whole hope and intent was to piece together the finest expression of truth, in agreement with my feelings, on the subject of abortion, and to have that expression published for all students to consider and contemplate," con-template," continued Mr. Limburg. Mr. Marling stated, "I still have not heard Nevin Limburg deny that he wrote a note to Chad Dobson which requested tickets to the Baez concert in return for unspecified future favors. If this is false I would think he would at least deny it. If it was false he could sue for libel. But it is not false, it is true." Implied meaning Mr. Limburg replied, "It is commonplace for the ASUU officers to receive tickets to ASUU-sponsored events. There certainly was no need of a bribe to obtain them." Limburg continued, "I left a note wh" h essence said, 'How about some tickets to the Baez concert? I'll h 1 out in your future financial problems, with the implied meaninq thaHVU in his service to handle the day-to-day financial situations which between Finance Board and Programs Council." nse Mr. Limburg then said that he did not know about a "financial that developed later that same day. Mr. Limburg returned to Dob"5'8" office to "inform him I no longer needed any tickets to the contort5 discovered that Chad's conflict was with the Board, and I resolvri ' help him bring such to a long-standing solution." ,c Favors are policy Mr. Dobson, Union Programs Coordinator, stated, " fee that Chrony misunderstood and has grossly overstated the 'bribe note ' It matter of policy for complimentary tickets to be offered to member 8 the Executive Cabinet for concerts sponsored by ASUU and any memh of the cabinet can get these tickets by simply asking. I considered tlT note to be a "joke" and the whole thing was dismissed by me the ne't day." Mr. Marling said,"lf it is commonplace for ASUU officers to ask f free tickets to benefit concerts sponsored by migrant workers I thil that is the most reprehensible thing I've heard of. Besides, ChadDobs worked for Union Board, not ASUU. Limburg knew full well that h'" Finance Board was hassling Dobson. To deny that is balony. We are stffl waiting to hear if Limburg will resign." |
