What is the Vietnamese revolution? Radical theatrics Mr. Robert Scheer is the former editor of "Ramparts" magazine. He has traveled and spent time both in South and North Vietnam. He said "Jerry Rubin tells college students he's a Viet Cong, but he's actually a product of the American culture and hasn't begun to understand what the Vietnamese Revolutionary culture is all about. Much of what the American radicals have been doing is theatrics aimed at shocking their elders rather than serious organizing. Throwing a rock at a small shopkeeper's window is not revolutionary; indeed it's reactionary." reaction-ary." Mr. Scheer will share speaking time with Mr. Vu-Thien-Dinh, a doctoral candidate in architecture at the University of California at Berkely. He is also a member of the Union of Vietnamese in the United States. American myth Of the Vietnam war, Mr. Vu-Thien-Kinh said, "The distinction between North and South Vietnam as two separate countries is only a myth created by the American administration. I was born in Saigon. My father was born in Hanoi. I have relatives in both areas. This is a typical situation for most of the Vietnamese people. Vietnam is one country, Vietnamese Viet-namese people are one people. There is no such thing as the agression towards the South Vietnamese by the North Vietnamese Viet-namese people. It is ridiculous to say that the Vietnamese people are invading their own country. The myth created by the American administration is used as an excuse to escalate the war and to mask the real agression by the U.S. administration." ad-ministration." Both men have been speaking on the University campus since Monday. The Contemporary Issues program will be a continuation of their talks on Vietnam and its populace. Mr. Robert Scheer, the former editor of 'Ramparts,' will speak at Contemporary Issues Thursday night along with Mr. Vu-Thien-Dinh on the culture of the North and South Vietnamese. |
