Show Good of the students adviser's concern Mrs. Geneva Blackwell, former admissions counselor and assistant to the director of the State University of New York, has been appointed advisor to Black students at the University. The appointment was approved ap-proved by the Institutional Council Oct. 9. In her new assignment at the University Minorities Center, Mrs. Black-well Black-well will serve as consultant and adviser to the 130 Black students on campus in both academic and non-academic matters. Mrs. Blackwell noted that, "we're here for the good of the students." While she admitted the Black Advising Program has recently "run up against a brick wall with some of these student problems," she mentioned men-tioned that the program as a whole is running smoothly. She looks forward to changes in the present program according to student needs. Mrs. Blackwell has been a social case worker in Buffalo, New York and a counselor for the Police Athletic League Center, as well as teaching in Buffalo schools. She also worked as a placement interviewer with the New York State Department of Labor. She received a B.A. in 1958 from Bennett College and her M.A. in counselor education in 1972 from the State University of New York. |
