Show V i t Dean resigns from position following administration i restructuring i Dean of Students Mike Patton resigned from his position effective Monday, Oct. 2. it was learned yesterday. According lo Vice-President Vice-President for Student Affairs Virginia P. Fro-bes, Fro-bes, Patton resigned due to "A change in the administrative model." Patton - a professor profes-sor in educational psychology - returns to full-time teaching immediately. Vice-President Frobes said the University has been engaged in a low-key program of restructing the administration and the way it serves the school community. "It became apparent shortly," she said, "that the Dean of Students position didn't make much sense." After the reorganization "there probably prob-ably wouldn't be a Dean of Students." Patton, Pat-ton, she said, wanted to return to teaching. "Mike decided now would be the best time to make his shift . . . there is a real loss is terms of Mike's going." The reorganization, which is still in the input stage, began Monday, the day Patton resigned. The team or reorganizers expects to have a rough plan by mid-November. The new system will be implemented by Jan. 1. One certain feature of the new system is that student services will be broken down into area groups, rather than concentrated under the Dean of Students position. The Dean of Students position will be dissolved. The reorganization team will make trips to other campuses to study reorganization efforts there. Vice-President Frobes reported that the restructuring of student services and decease of Deans of Students positions is part of a national trend. She said the first step in such a program on this campus began last spring when Student Health Services were reorganized. Frobes also met with ASUU President Duane Moss and Vice President Norm Albis-ton Albis-ton to determine the most effective manner of student input into the reorganization process. After the Tuesday afternoon meeting, meet-ing, Albiston said that a program was evolving evolv-ing whereby a substantial number of students would be tutored in the Dean of Students' responsibilities and then exposed to new ideas, and finally make an input into the ultimate reorganization process, Albiston said he was encouraged that students were being represented quite fairly. |
