Show Kudos to Union Board Occasionally we take this space to compliment someone on a job well done. And if anyone merits some praise this quarter, it's the Union Board which administers the programs and facilities of the A. Ray Olpin Union Building. In the forefront is their movie program. It has to be the most outstanding in recent years . . . including ":The Reivers," "Ivan Denisovich," "Closely Watched Trains," "Little Big Man," "Laura" and others. There's a special segment seg-ment for classics fans, a short subject festival, and even some vintage horror movies. When combined with the ASUU Entertainment Committee's Sunday series, the movie-goer can see about four different films per week, all top notch And as this wasn't enough to do, catch the lineup of music that will be coming to campus this quarter. Head-liners Head-liners will be Cold Blood, Joan Baez, and Pete Seeger. A new coffee house opening in the Cork Room upstairs in the Union will present outstanding outstand-ing folk-singers at prices from two bits to $1.50. They've booked such talent as Rosalie Sorrells, Mance Lipscomb, Mike Russo, Mike Seeger, Obediah's Organic Bluegrass Band, and Body Wagoner. None of that high priced big-crowd big-crowd rip-off stuff here . . you'll be sitting right down within spitting distance. And down in the Crimson Commons, Com-mons, jazz and blues concerts con-certs are going to be presented pre-sented occasionally. Count in the concerts presented by other groups and it amounts to a staggering quarter for the ears. But Union Board has other functions too. They're engaged in re-allocating space to accommodate ac-commodate facilities of the Academic Counseling Office, in planning the remodeling of the North Wing so that it may be open 24 hours a day, and in refurbishing certain areas for greater use. The old gallery gal-lery downstairs currently houses an art show. Well, it's hard to imagine how they could do any more, or any better. So even before they're done, it looks like we're saying "Thanks Union Board, for a job well done." |
