Show ! Small quake hits Salt Lake One moderate earthquake with 50 to 60 aftershocks was felt in Utah I Sunday afternoon and Monday. The main quake occurred at 1:47 p.m. Sunday and measured 4.0 on the Richter scale. According to the latest report from the University j Seismology Station the earth moved in a vertical direction with the epicenter epic-enter of the quake located north west of Heber City. Although no damage was reported report-ed on University buildings, residents resi-dents of the Medical Plaza said they could feel the new high rises "swaying". Other residents outside out-side the buildings noticed the ground and benches were moving up and down. Earthquakes are a major concern in the Salt Lake Area because Salt Lake City lies on top of the Wasatch Fault System. According to Professor Profes-sor Clyde T. Hardy of Utah State i University, one of the more obvious J places where the fault line is visable lis north of Salt Lake City by the Wasatch Hot Springs. |
