Show Mcintosh replacement Visiting jazz instructor named . . . f ,,.,1 Uxi ,lli.ir. iirwl hiih performed by college and high school bands throughout the country, Mr. Wolking has composed three works for full wind ensemble (concert band), a woodwind quintet (honoruble mention in this year's National Composition Contest for Young Composers, sponsored by the national Federation of MuHic Clubs), a Song Cycle for Soprano and Piano, a Fantasy for String Orchestra, and an avant-garde, theater piece for four vocalists and four trombones. Before Serving as a graduate assistant at North Texas Statu "University, Mr. Wolking was assistant director of lab bandH at the University of Florida. In his new assignment at the University, he will teach a second year theory class for jazz majors and courses in improvisation and jazz arranging. Wolking of North Texas State University has been named visiting instructor of jazz at the University. The appointment, ap-pointment, approved Monday by the Institutional Council, is effective immediately. The new jazz instructor has just completed his master s thesis the-sis in composition at North Texa State Universe He is a 9 honors graduate of the Umver sity of Florida in music educa on and has also attended the Berklee School of Music , Boston and Brevard Junior College in Cocoa, Fla. Mr. Wolking has extensive experience in playing and writing for a variety of instrumental groups. He is a professional trombonist and has worked as a leader and sideman for various ensembles (rock, soul and jazz) and big bands, and has studio experience in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. He has worked with such performers as Don Jacoby, Ella Fitzgerald, Buddy Morrow, Brenda Lee, Johnny Desmond and Jose Feliciano. The new University instructor is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Omicron Deta Kappa, men's leadership honorary. He received a 1970 Phi Beta Kappa Creative Achievement Award, and is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.
