Show Kunstler, Widener to debate working within 'the system1 "The System: Within or Without It" will be the subject of debate Thursday at Contemporary Con-temporary Issues. William Kuntsler, attorney for the Chicago Seven, and Warren Widener, the first black mayor of Berkeley, Calif., will debate at 7:15 p.m. in the Union Ballroom. Mr. Kunstler is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Yale University. During World War II, he served as a signal intelligence officer with the U.S. Eighth Army in the Pacific. He was awarded the Bronze Star and attained the rank of major. While working on his law degree at the Columbia University Law School, Mr. Kunstler was a book reviewer for the "New York Times" and the "New York Herald Tribune." He was admitted to the New York Bar in 1948 and has become well-known in recent years as defense attorney for the Black Panthers, Roman Catholic peace militants and H. Rap Brown. Mr. Kunstler has written several books including "And Justice for All," "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" and "Deep' in My Heart." Warren Widener is also an attorney and a "former missile-control officer of the Strategic Air Command. He is a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley Law School. |
