We will not compromise these issues, we will not compromise these programs." Of working with the admin, ration ra-tion he says, "If they respect you, they're more than wiling to listen to you. Part of that respect is being able to argue anc 'disagree with them. I'm not afraid to tell them when they're wrong. They don t like lackies." As University Provost Dr. Tom King said of the Jerry Rubin affair, "We shouldn't fall over ourselves to apologize to the community for these Jinds of things. We should explain to them that thats the kind of thing we would be doing up here." We agree, and we think Moss has indicated he will take an apologetic stance when confronted with pressure groups from outside the studentbody. Hayes, we think, has taken a stance reflecting more idealism and conviction, a stance which the studentbody needs. The comparative athletic funding platforms are a perfect indication of this: Moss advocates no change in the athletic funding situation. Students will unquestioningly continue to contribute their dole to the athletic machine. Hayes, on the other hand, wants to decrease student "taxation" for the athletic department, investigate waste in the Department of Athletics, and involve students in Athletic budget decisions. While Moss' position is predicated on tradition, obeyance, the status quo, and irrelevance, Hayes' platform is based on change, priorities, removal of waste, and student involvement. Without question, we choose the latter. |
