"I am not a socialist," said Pete Grundfossen, self labeled liberal Utah House of Representatives Democrat, in answer to Republican Republi-can charges made during the last campaign. Being a politician, he gets "subjected "sub-jected to all kinds of things and it hurts," Grundfossen explained in the informal "Coffee and Politics" meeting Thursday. During the recent re-cent campaign he ran into many problems. Mr. Grundfossen said his opponent used some misinformation mis-information to prove the Democrat was a socialist and a campus protest supporter. The misinformation made him appear to encourage students to strike during the Kent State reactions last spring, Mr. Grundfossen said. Actually when he spoke to the University rally he commended the students for the peaceful handling of the demonstration march but said he wouldn't condone con-done them for going in lo take over the buildings. Instead of reacting to such a charge, Mr. Grundfossen said he ignored it and the situation was not publicized much beyond the Republican inner circles. He won by 300 votes. He explained the reason more voters voted for the Utah House of Representatives than for the U.S. Senate was as, "it was the rottcnest campaign that anybody pould remember" and the voters were really mixed up. Mr. Grundfosscn's plans in his new office include submitting several bills. One would cut the military budget. Another would increase expenditures for education. educa-tion.
