Show Golfers seek win over BYU The Redskin golf team will attempt at-tempt to get back on the winning road again this weekend when they meet Brigham Young at the Riverside Riv-erside Country Club in Provo. The Utes lost a heart-breaking match by two putts to Utah State on Monday and dropped their season sea-son record to 3-3. The Cougars haven't lost a meet yet and are 7-0 on the season. The Utes will be led by Dave Jenkins, who carded a 69 against Utah State, and Tom Christensen. Brigham Young is led by one of the nation's" top" golfers,' Ray Leach. Leach placed third in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Asso-ciation (NCAA) golf championships champion-ships last year. He also won the Pikes Peak Invitational meet last year. Besides Leach, Lane Bennett, Ben-nett, Rusty Guernsey and Tee Tyler Ty-ler will play important roles for the Cougars. Coach Vincent McGuire said: "This is going to be a tough meet, because Brigham Young is one of the top golf squads in the country and we are also playing on their home course." Coach McGuire points out that the home course advantage is very important in golf. "When you play on your own course you have the advantage of knowing how the ball is going to roll on a specific green and you know the angles on the greens," he said. |
