University Shakespeare Players premiere 'King Lear' Taming of the Shrew' tonight nately from March 2-14, with evening performances at eight o'clock, and matinees on both Saturdays at 2:00. Student tickets are on sale now for fifty cents, for the Monday through Thursday evening performances, and for the matinees; seats on Friday or Saturday Sat-urday evening are one dollar for students. Non-student tickets are $2.00. The university Shakespeare Players under the direction of David Jones, open their productions produc-tions of 'King Lear' and 'The Taming of the Shrew' Monday evening, in the Babcock Theater (bottom level of Pioneer Memorial Theatre) and will run until March 14. The Shakespeare Players are a group of University students who devote a full quarter of study to the production of Shakespeare's work. Organized three years ago, the Players already hold productions produc-tions of "Twelfth Night," "Macbeth," "Hamlet," and "The Merry Wives of Windsor" to their credits. The company is composed of graduate students and upper class theatre majors. Included in the committment to the Shakes peare productions, as well as acting, act-ing, are construction of sets, gathering of properties, promotion, promo-tion, and costume construction. The members of the Shakespeare Players generally devote from eight to twelve hours per day rehearsing re-hearsing and completing the other tasks assigned to them. The productions this year, "The Taming of the Shrew" and "King Lear" are by many considered con-sidered to be Shakespeare's finest comedy and tragedy. "The Taming Tam-ing of the Shrew" sets and costumes cos-tumes were designed by Mary Lou Garfield as partial fulfillment for her M.F.A. degree. Costumes for "King Lear" were designed by Judith Olauson, with the set by Leon Hale. The productions will play alter- |
