Well, one place for information is Scholarship Search, 342 Madison Avenue, New York, which uses a computer to match coDege students with various vari-ous aids. According to Dave Dunn, executive execu-tive director of Scholarship Research, Re-search, "Millions of dollars' worth of scholarships, fellowships, grants, and student aids go begging beg-ging each year." For example, the University of Arizona offers six "Vegetable Grower's" scholarships for $500 each, and the "Kenneth Gunther" scholarship, worth $500 annually, to students who have participated in rodeos as a roper. There is an endless list of scholarships schol-arships available for an incredible incredi-ble variety of reasons. If a stu dent has a proficiency in voice or organ, is interested in the turkey industry, majors in pottery or plans a career in wild life management, man-agement, there is aid available to him. "Through Scholarship Search," says Dunn, "students fill out an application which is then processed proc-essed and matched against t h e world's largest data base of financial fi-nancial aid sources. The list of financial aid items for which the student is available is thus obtained. ob-tained. The list is mailed to the student and includes a minimum of 10 items of aid for a fee of $20. Many users receive a list of 20 or more items for which they are eligible. The system locates and supplies a list of the financial aid items, but does not secure them for the students. That is up to the student, of course." |
