Show "V-.L i 7''' U riding class lacks students due to fees Due to a ruling by the University, Uni-versity, English horseback riding and jumping, a class offered through the Continuing Education program has not had much of a chance to prove itself to the Experimental Ex-perimental Curriculum Board. The ruling states that a student cannot take a night class while taking a day class without paying an extra fee. In other words, a student would have to pay his regular enrollment fee of $160 for the day time plus the $73.50 fee for the night riding class. As a result of the financial problems, many students who have wanted to take the class cannot afford it. Mrs. Josephine Ropcke, who teaches the class, said she could have had at least 25 more students stu-dents enrolled for university credit during the summer had it not been for the rules. As it is there are only three students who are taking the class for credit. Besides the University class which is taught twice a week, Mrs. Ropcke teaches private lessons les-sons for $3 an hour. Any student wishing to take the class on a private basis with no credit may contact Mrs. Ropcke by phoning 266-9409. Under the rules of the Experimental Experi-mental Curriculum Board, the class will be taught for two quarters quar-ters on an experimental basis. At the end of the two quarters it is Mrs. Josephine Ropcke heads nighttime horseback riding class. Extra fee keeps students away. up to the department involved whether or not the course is to be continued. Unless the ruling concerning the night classes is changed Mrs. Ropcke feels that the class, as a part of the University Uni-versity curriculum does not stand a fair chance. Mrs. Ropcke is from Holland but received most of her training in the United States. The class is taught at her arena, the Valley Riding School at 5750 South Bullion Bul-lion Street. The class will put the most emphasis on jumping techniques tech-niques but it will aso include the Dressage Riding Method the type used in the Olympics. Shows are presented by the riding group throughout the Salt Lake Valley. |
