Show French version of Greek play to open at Kingsbury Hall The first production of Racine's "Phedre" to be performed in French in this country in many years will be presented at Kingsbury Hall Saturday at 8 p.m. Pheclre will be performed by France's La Comedie de Bourges, with Roland Monod directing and Madeleine Marion, Lucienne Lemarchand and Mario Pilar starring in the production. Anne Bellec, Colette Dorsay, Helen Aligier, Sylvain Corthay will also appear in "Phedre." Written by Jean Racine in 1677, "Phedre" is based on plays by Euripedes and Seneca about a woman who falls in love with her stepson. Phedre believes that her husband Thesee is dead and reveals her love for Hippolyte, her stepson. When Thesee returns he believes that Hippolyte has violated Phedre and Hippolyte dies as a result of Thesee asking the gods for revenge. In the end Phedre confesses the truth and takes poison. Phedre is being brought to the United States by Mel Howard Productions in association with Les Productions D'Aujourd'Hui of Paris. It will tour the United States for six weeks under the auspices of the French Government in cooperation with Mr. Morot-Sir of the French Consulate in New York. The University performance of Pheclre is sponsored by the University Department of Languages. Tickets for the production cost $1.50.
