Show Up gainst the wall Woman's Week program is a clasical ferce and irrelevant. AWS is typical of the University studentbody organizations that promise loudly to become involved in the country's social revolution while helping to perpetuate the status quo. Now I know, to a limited degree, how blacks feel ate Negroes telling them that white really understands the problem I haven't "Come A Long Ita Baby" and AWS is going to keepi that way. l. By Jeannette Brown I would like to know who has "Come A Long Way Baby." Associated Women Students is right on as usual. Indeed ', women's role in society has changed in the past years, it has not resulted from the help of women's organizations like AWS. A changed role implies some form of active reform or revolution. Women's Week, attempting to show exactly how far we've (Come A Long Way Baby"), otters a fashion show, a china display, a bridal lecture and sorority exchange dinners. The paradox is absurd. The women's service corps-auxiliaries that perform all the "womanly" functions of the ROTC'sare presented drill demonstrations. Military exhibitions as proof of my equality with man just don't make it. "Georgy Girl," symbolizing every double standard technique used to keep women in their "place," is being shown free to women. The absurdity continues. A games night only for women is scheduled. In addition Georgy Girl" and the Friday n'ght stomp (to climax the week no less) will be free to women but 75 cents for "boys." What a total farce. Women's Week and AWS are classics-graphically proving that our society speaks in terms of principles but in action blatantly 'gnores them. The Week's activities are precisely those "womanly" functions ywe going a long way to eliminate because they are discriminatory |
