The suggestion was made that parking be allowed on the road, but this was rejected on the grounds that it would create a safety hazard. A plan to charge for parking in the lot has been developed, and is in the hands of the administration. The committee took no specific action on this problem. Three changes concerning campus parking were approved by the Campus Traffic and Planning I Committee. Lower class students will now be allowed to park in upper class parking places on Saturday. Previously, lower classmen could park in these areas only on Sundays and after 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Roland Carr, committee member, recommended the changes be made in light of the fact that parking pressure is very light on Saturday. Faculty Parking The committee also agreed to one row of faculty parking to be redesignated for student use to make up for the loss of student spaces in the parking lot east of the (Security building. The Security lot was changed to a faculty only area. The change was made because of increased faculty pressure on the area brought about by the move of 70 English and Language Department staff offices to the Library. A request by construction workers, particularly brick masons, working on the Union building for a parking area was granted. Space will be allotted the workers in the area east of the Purchasing Building. The masons had complained that when they came to work there were no places to park near the Union Building. The committee also approved redesignating one row of student parking as staff parking near Merrill Engineering Building. A spokesman from the engineering department said that there were only 56 parking places for over 100 staff members. The problem of overcrowding in the lot north of the Medical Center was discussed.
