Show Law prof to discuss legislature The proposals for higher education to be considered by the state legislature will be discussed Wednesday at 3 p.m. by Dr. Jerry Andersen, law professor. Dr. Andersen will give background of two major proposals and answer questions from the audience. The proposals essentially include: 1) strengthening the Coordinating Council by giving it additional powers such as control of growth and development of all Utah institutions. The Coordinating Council would act as a governing body over all higher institutions, or 2) establishing a single Board of Regents which would abolish the Coordinating Council and the individual governing boards and have all power of the present boards. The proposals, Dr. Andersen said, are not the only possibilities. Parts of each could be combined such as a board for the four year institutions and a board for two year colleges. Dr. Andersen said that he favors the single board over strengthening the Coordinating Council. Dr. Andersen's speech is preparation for a discussion scheduled for next week by two members of the Coordinating Council. |
