"'v - : Utah's cross-country squad takes off on a trial run in preparation for their meet with New Mexico Saturday. The Utes are hoping to gain their first victory. Ute harriers seek first victory against UNM home grounds. Chuck transfered to New Mexico after running a year for the Redskins. Seeley Leads Utes Al Seeley will head the full Utah team in their second home meet. Seeley has led the Utes to the finish line in both the previous matches. Other Utah runners will be Randle Bauer, Gerald Walker, Randy Balice, Greg Baldwin, Frank Wojtech and Randy Doyle. Utah Track Club will enter Mike Roberts, Peter Meldrum, Jim Hawkins, Ray Kershaw and Jeff Hawkins. The University freshman team will include David Welsh, Brett Hanson, Steve Cranfill and Richard Pugh. Coach Hugh Hackett's University of New Mexico cross-country team will be after its third straight victory Saturday when the Lobos meet the Redskins harriers at 10:30 a.m. Coach Pete Carlston and the Redskin team are still looking for their first victory, after suffering two defeats in the '68 season. The Utes will be back on the familiar University golf course route, after dropping their meet last week to Washington State in Pullman, Wash. Easy Win New Mexico picked up victory number two Saturday with an easy win over Colorado State University 23-32. Lobo runners placed second, third, fifth, sixth and seventh in posting the victory. Earlier New Mexico downed Arizona 19-40 after losing its opener to Texas-El Paso. Hackett will enter a seven man team including Adrian DeWindt, who finished second in the meet with CSU and who holds the New Mexico 3000 meter steeplechase record. Chuck Schuck, Bob Nanninga, Tom Toft, Dave Roberts and Ray Jordan make up the remainder of the Lobo traveling squad. Schuck, an ex-Ute, will be returning to |
