Show Other Campus i A Tribal Council Ey SCOTT ROBERTSON If you follow the Chronicle at all you have probably noticed smather-ings smather-ings of election information beginning begin-ning to flow across the pages. It may seem rather early to even start thinking about running for an ASUU office, but that is why you're not an officer. Around Christmas a few of us got together for the puipose of finding potential ASUU candidates. I thought the group was just a bunch of interested students out to find the best man. That was without a doubt the gross misconception of the year. No Indians Everybody had their eye on one of the offices. What the meeting was in effect was a meeting of tribeless chiefs. They all had great ideas and most were electable, but they would all have had to draw the base support from the same area. We finally decided to wait and see how we felt about it later. It was about six weeks ago in a small smoke-filled room at two minutes min-utes after twelve that a similar group met. They had changed somewhat. some-what. There were some new people, supporters were included, and there was support for a serious presidential presiden-tial candidate beginning to form. The big problem here was convincing convinc-ing him he should run. "I am not a Pi Kappa Alpha," he said. "I am sure that's in your favor after last year. Nothing really special has come from the Pi Kapps for years," I said. More Excuses "But I am not a missionary," lie went on. I had been waiting for him to bring this up for two weeks. "I don't know why that should k ' portant to consider? You'll h explain to me how a per,r leave the school for two Ve ('; matter how worthy the 4,' turn and think he can run u 1 tively. There is just no I' j could view the problems i ' same realistic way you ca don't think anyone would be so' centric as to do such a thine 5 "They're going to do it " "Not if lean help it," I said" would have been hard enough . someone like that to do a goo if we were sure God was alive" "I wonder what F. Scott p-gerald p-gerald would have done'" "What?" "I wonder what F. Scott Ffe, aid would have done if someone : asked him to run for an ASUf J fice?" he repeated. "Won," I said. |
